Hey whats up guys. I finally decided to go with the megasquirt ECU. I have been reading a lot about it and am starting to get it a little more. I would like to use it for fuel only for now and was reading on the forum you can use an older distributor off a earlier rx-7 on mine and get rid of the CAS. Is this possible? what parts exactly do I need to do this? is there a write up or anything on how to do this? I want to get rid of the stock ECU and harness altogether. When reading about the megasquirt they said its very easy even for first timers but when you get into controlling the ignition also it can get complicated at first. Thanks guys.

I think the hardest part would be getting ahold of the dizzy you'd want, one from a boosted 12AT (Japan, Aussieland, NZ). Other than that; its the same as the wiring from a 1st gen (FSM manuals can be found online).

I'm doing something similar w/ an N/A setup (regular 12A dizzy) and also intend to run 2 FC foils (Trailing Coil in a direct-fire setup, using the 'transistor trick'; Leading coil running through the cap to the plugs) which would keep everything up in the drivers-side corner using the stock leading bracket... but I might put the coils on the top of the engine to keep wires as short as possible... <shrug>

Your parts list;

(1) 12AT Dizzy

(2) stock J-109 ignitors

(2) coils

if you want to do something similar to what I planned; then you already have the stock FC coils; you'd just need a transistor. If you have $30 and an electrically inclined friend, they'd probably throw it together for you. Search for 'Transistor Trick' for a write-up.

...correct me if I'm wrong...

ooh ok. what if I went with an Ignition controller such as a MSD digital 6 plus ignition controller. What all would I need if I went with this kind of setup? Sorry for the akward question guys.. Im just really trying to see what options I have for my car and I know nothing about tuning nor the ignition system. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png thanks for the help.
