I bought an old-school hks boost gauge the one with the black face/ red-orange numbers/ white needle, but I can't install it on my car because I don't have the instructions for it. I've tried looking all over the internet for some instructions and asking people, but couldn't find anything. All I found was other poeple that had the same problem. Do any of you guys know how to install this gauge or know where to get any instructions?? if you do write back ASAP. thanx

j9fd3s 01-19-2004 02:32 PM

is it vacuum or electronic? what exactly do you need to know?

Corbit 01-19-2004 02:43 PM

I would assume their electric I've got the same one's and the same problom

Rob x-7 01-19-2004 02:53 PM

if its electric and you are missing the sender there might be

a problem no?

Turbo2FC3S 01-19-2004 02:58 PM

It's an Electric gauge. I just need the wiring diagram for the gauge.

wan 01-19-2004 03:31 PM

I also need the wiring diagram for this gauge. Seems like no one here has it or is too stingy to share the wealth :p:

Some one here has to have the gauge's instructions. I think this guy needs the color of the wire and what it is (ie. black = ground, red = positive...).

Thanks

Rob x-7 01-19-2004 03:34 PM

how many wires are coming out of it?

wan 01-19-2004 03:43 PM

4 wires. See below..

- black = ground

- red = 12v constant?

- orange = instrument panel dimmer?

- yellow = switched ignition?

Rob x-7 01-19-2004 03:46 PM

i would say no

one of those wires is for the sender, and gagues dont

get a 12v constant.

lights and ground, not sure if it has a dimmer on it.

wan 01-19-2004 03:51 PM

The sender harness is seperate from the gauge's power harness. The sender one has 3 wires and two female plugs on each end. One female plug for the sender and one for the gauge. The gauge harness has a female plug on one end that goes to the gauge and the other end has bare wires. Im confused :(

Rob x-7 01-19-2004 03:55 PM

never mind, that was for a greddy gauge

wan 01-19-2004 04:03 PM

The sender harness does have a white wire but not the actual gauge harness. The gauge's harness has: black, red, orange and yellow wires. Want me to take a picture of the harness?

sure

Found a PDF containing this info!!!

BLACK: GROUND

RED: 12v Ignition Power Source

Orange: Constant 12v power

Yellow: Illumination Source (parking lamps)

Thanks for helping out. Really appreciate it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Rob x-7 01-19-2004 04:30 PM

where is the sender wire?

How in the hell are you supposed to get a boost reading from that? Why do you need constant power? Does the gauge have memory?

Rob x-7 01-19-2004 04:33 PM

i cant see why a gauge would possibly need constant power either?

wan 01-19-2004 04:34 PM

Yea, pretty weird. Its a Peak/Hold gauge so it probably uses it to store data.

RONIN FC 01-19-2004 04:36 PM

Does the wiring have any stripes? I suspect you need a sender.

wan 01-19-2004 04:36 PM

I guess the sender gets its power from the gauge's power supply since the sender plugs in directly to the back of the gauge.

Rob x-7 01-19-2004 04:38 PM

it still needs to somehow get the reading from the engine, either

its a vacuum hose, or a electrical sender, otherwise how would the

gauge work.

So the sender plugs in separate from those 4 wires? do you have a pic

What they are driving at is that according to the wiring setup listed above, there are no wires connected to a sending unit so how is the gauge getting its information? Where is it reading the boost from...according to this?

I have everything except for the actual instructions from HKS. I have two of these gauges, one is brand new with everything but the box unopened and a used one. Both are missing instructions which sucked until now.

RONIN FC 01-19-2004 04:45 PM

One of the wires must be for a grounded sender, like an oil sender.

i dunno either but my greddy would flip out without it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

Cheers! 01-19-2004 05:18 PM

ya greddy electronics have constant 12V, not sure why. Rob, i think the HKS has two harness, one for power, and another that goes to sender unit in car.

Rob x-7 01-19-2004 05:22 PM

if it has peak/hold I can see it needing it for that

correct. The sending unit connects to the back of the gauge using its own harness. The gauge itself has another harness for power. The sending unit gets its power from the gauge. Something like this...

--POWER--> [GAUGE]--POWER-->(SENDING UNIT)

Alonso 11-07-2005 04:55 PM

Hi there

Thanks a lot for that information. I was searching for hours.. Can you forward me the pdf? I've got the following EGT-gauge:

http://alonso.ch/galerie/bilder/uploads/115.jpg

The wiring for the power and the sensor is allright now. But there are any other wires (blue and so on). I think they must be the output for the warn, or what do you think?
