Ok guys , I need some serious help here . Im having an electrical problem with my head lights , but I think I have found my problem and I want to check with you guys . I have an 86 coupe with a 89 Turbo II in it . My question a simple . Are the turn signal and head light switches the same for the 86-91 years . I called my local dealer and he stated that they had several different part #'s for the same year . Also looking for the same , is the small 12-18 " wirring harness that connects the switches to the main harness the same for the 86-912 models .

Any help would be a great big help

Thanks in advance

Kenny

the headlight switches are probably the same but the turn signals are not. if you go through the dealer you will probably pay a lot more for the parts

The wires that connect switches to the harness under the dash are different, mostly the pin locations are different between s4 and s5 at those wire. So if you try to put a s5 turn signal switch on an s4 wire, it might turn on your wipers instead of your left turn signal. Basically the plugs are the same but the pin location are different between the harness and plugs. Does this answer your question?

Yea this is what I was finding out last night . The manual showed certain pins doing certain things ???? But when I tested my car the pins they said to use were 180 out ??? Hmmmm

Thanks

The headlight switches are definitely NOT the same. Neither are the wiring harnesses that connect to them. The microfiche shows two different wiring harnesses for the S5 and neither of them are the same as the S4.

- S4 Headlight switch

- S5 Headlight switch

- S4 wiring harness

- S5 wiring harness for cars without airbag

- S5 wiring harness for cars with airbag

As for the wiper switch, aside from the S4 being different from the S5, there are different switches available for different trim levels:

- S4 without rear wiper

- S5 without rear wiper

- S4 with rear wiper

- S5 with rear wiper

- S4 convertible

- S5 convertible with airbag

- S5 convertible without airbag.

Hmm... I swapped an s5 headlight switch in to my s4 and everything seems to work fine. Both cars were the same trim package though. Maybe s4 GXL and s5 GXL are the same?
