If anyone remembers i posted about my car ****** up on me when driving, and i assumed it was the fuel pump. I was correct in a way. There was some sort of short or a bad ground or something that caused the fuel pump to not be getting any power. I replaced the fuel filter, dropped in a walbro highflow 255 fuel pump, checked all relays to the fuel pump and all wiring, all is in good order and the fuel pump is now working properly. We did a compression test and i got an average of 93-95psi on both rotors. We've checked all relays and wiring, and everything is intact, i get no CEL at all. Now, the car will start up, BUT it will die out quickly, as if flooded. The primary injectors were blueprinted/balanced by RC engineering less than 3k miles ago, by the previous owner, but the secondaries were not. I dont know why not, but they werent. What could the problem be now? We checked the crank angle position sensor to make sure the injectors were getting signal, and form that point, they are. and i also checked for any vaccum leaks or popped off hoses. Im not sure what else is left to check. Does anyone have any ideas of what it might be now?

i also forgot to mention, the car does struggle to start. alot

Did you upgrade the injectors or do u leave the stock ones? If you have the stock ones I think you need upgrade the injectors as well since I don't think stock injector will handle to much fuel. Correct me if Im wrong.

a walbro with stock injectors is perfectly fine, i have 0 fuel problems with my walbro.

as for your problem, it could be leaky secondaries.

is the engine actually flooded or does it just act flooded? youve had rotaries before so i figure you know how to check for severe flooding (remove sparkplug etc)

if it is indeed flooding ill have to say your secondaries are leaking. HStruggling start may be caused by excessive fuel when trying to start it.

I figure to get it to start you hold the gas pedal down? If it starts when you do that its definitely due to excess fuel that youre having troubles because youre adding more air to the mix.

i checked the plugs, dry as a whistle. I dont have to give it any gas for it to start. just takes a while to actually start, and when it does, it goes dead.

hmm sounds like its not actually flooding then.

did you check your coil packs? i think theyre known to fail after time.

Benny 02-13-2004 11:43 PM

coil packs are fine

CrassFC3S 02-13-2004 11:43 PM

are you getting spark? something similar was happening to me and i took the plugs out and i held them next to a screw driver while my friend cranked it and the leading coil wasnt firing at all... after a bit of banging and cursing it they started working magically

CrassFC3S 02-13-2004 11:44 PM

**** haha scratch my post then

are your injectors giving gas at all?

cause if you got spark, and you got intake, you only need fuel.

so since you established spark and intake, fuel is the only element left.

I think it dying out quickly is mroe of a running out of gas problem rather then a flooding problem in this case.

i checked the crank angle sensor, and its sending signal to the injectors, i havent gotten the intake manifold off yet to check each injector individually yet, im gonna try to get to it tomorrow. working 50+ hours a week and having a girlfriend, its kinda hard to find time to work on the car... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

CrassFC3S 02-14-2004 01:50 PM

your car should take priority over everything haha just joshin, yes like captain flamethrowa said check for fuel issues, maybe lines it wouldnt make sense for it to be your secondaries so check lines *shrug* good luck

a friend of mine has a 89 gtu....it's doing this same thing.....do ya'll think that it could possibly be the TPS......?

Sounds like the AFM is disconnected. Or try jumping the fuel system circut so the fuel pump stays on. The stock relay has one phase for startup and one while running, so that can be a problem also.

And you should rewire your walbro, the stockwireing is not relyable after all these years

fc3st2 02-15-2004 09:35 PM

to the top..... good luck with the car

Benny 02-16-2004 12:39 AM

we did all new wiring on the fuel pump, cause one of the ground wires was not always grounding correctly. so we fixed all that. i didnt get to the injectors yet, maybe tomorrow, im gonna try to get a diagnostics computer on it, and see if that can tell me anything. Also, we checked for continuous power while trying to start the car, the fuel pump is in fact working while trying to start.

never mind.. doh

diagnostic computer? you mean blinking led's.

lol fc's arent sophisticated like fds. we find computer codes with blinking lights haha.

but fuel pump rewiring is always a good idea so at least you got that out of the way.
