What does evey 1 use when they use aftermarket gauges incase it matters I got a autometer phantom

Someone here installed the FC3s one and didnt have nice things to say about it.

you dont need the stock oil sender, its only mission in life is to run the gauge. it does look wierd to not have the needle move though

your auto meter gauge should have its own sender, is it electrical or mechanical?

Screw mechanical.......the wires eventually get brittle and then you run the possibility of leaks. Electrical all the way.

I installed the FC3S oil pedestal a couple weeks ago. I used the Autometer Phantom electrical oil pressure and temp guages. The senders screw right in, no problem. The problem is it's just a tight fit when your engine is still in the car. You have to be a damn contorsionist to get the mounting bolts out and back in from underneath the pedestal. My new pedestal was not drilled perfect either so it was a bitch to line up when putting it in. Hopefully for you, that is not an issue now since I had one from the initial batch.



As for the accuracy, the Phantom guage responds immediately when I rev up the engine and is about 5 psi higher than the stock guage everywhere. The stock guage will slowly give its reading about 5-10 seconds later than the Autometer which sucks since its always fluctuating with engine RPM. I'm not going to start another debate about aftermarket guages... I trust this $50 Autometer guage over stock and I've had it on 2 different cars now with no probs for 2 years.

Ive never actually heard of anyone having that happen to.

Of course its possible, but I always had mechanical gauges in pretty much every car I ever owned over the last 14 years and never once had a leak or a line go bad. At least you know the gauge will always work, no electical sender to go bad. You could always get braided lines with AN fittings if you are nervous. And a water temp or oil temp gauge has metal capilary tubing that cannot get a leak in it.



TECHNICALLY your electical sender can go bad and spring a leak as well.
