The oil pressure in my 89 gxl is messed up, or is it the guage? When I start it up it raises to about 60psi, but only for a few seconds. It will slowly drop down to about 30psi whether or not its being revved, and it continues to slowly drop down to pretty much nothing. The oil level is normal, and it doesnt seem to run hot.
I know 3rd gens have an oil pressure sending unit which has been known to go bad, but I havent found anything about those with the 2nd gen. I just hope I dont have to replace the oil pump... kind of a pain in the ass. Any ideas would be great. Thanks |
its possible its the sender, we used to stock it n201-14-820

Pretty much underneath the oil filter location.

The stock gauge does that in my 88, it sort of floats around while your driving it. I put in an aftermarket one, works good.

so should i replace the gauge? or the sender? i figured out where it is. it has some crusty ass wire plugged into it. i tried cleaning it off and i still get same results. is there any way to test it? everything seems to be fine but i dont wanna be driving this thing around if i might be damaging the engine.

take a quick oil sample to see if metal shavings are in the oil.

Usually the senders go bad. I need to replace mine on the T2 right now.

Its probably the sender on mine as well, I just sort of used the term gauge for the whole shabang. I bought an autometer one for around 50 bucks from summit, it seems to work just fine.

nice. my oil seems to be fine... all clean of shavings and no leakage. I'll let you know if I blow up. anyone know where I can get a replacement? We're sort of strapped for parts stores in my town. Thanks
