This is my first rx-7, so I don't know what is considered typical. When I start my 86 non-turbo, the oil pressure comes up to like 8 psi, and won't go above that no matter what I do. Then, after 1-3 minutes, it shoots right up to like 70 psi. However, yesterday, it took like 10 minutes to come up past 8 psi. Also, cruising at like 2800 rpm, it reads like 95 psi. Now, this I find hard to believe, so I'm wondering if my sender is flaking out? What are typical oil pressure numbers for you guys? I'm the only rx-7 in my area, so I have noone to ask. I want this to be right, argumentally oil psi is the most important thing in a car. The car seems totaly backwards with the oil, the hotter it gets, the higher the pressure gets. PLEASE HELP. Thanks.

my guess would be the sender too. Oil pressure @ idle is 30 ( on the stock gauge) and above 3000Rpms its like @ 60, but i have never seen higher, im sure 13BAce will be able to give u the eact figures, but i do know that 95Psi is way too high, especially for that engine speed.

Maybe it has something to do with the oil thermostat?

I'm not familiar with the oil thermostat. What does it do?

are u talking about the oil thermostat on the oil cooler? thats the only oil thermostat i know of. , when the oil gets a certain temp it open up the bypass for the oil cooler, allowing the oil to get cooled.

Yeah, but I don't know exactly how that would affect oil pressure. There's also a thermostat in the front of the eccentric shaft.
