I noticed a few pics I have been browsing through include an oil catch tank. From what I have learned, these are for saving against sludge and carbon build up which is bad. obviously. So how bout it, has anyone on here installed one of these? if so, where did you run the hoses to/from? Has it seemed to help any? Might have write up explaining the procedure to me how you installed? Pics even? any info on this would be cool, thanks.

i did the same ecept i just let the other end vent off (reason for this is if your oil filler cant breathe it will make all kinds of wacky white smoke come out your pipes and your oil pressure will be all crazy believe me it happened to me!!)

If it's connected to the engine it needs to have a filter - I made one out of a drinking bottle and a cheap filter off ebay:

It just gives the crank case a place to vent other then back into your intake.

Yeah it's probably completely pointless, I just prefer the idea of all that stale oil/air being kept away from the intake. What happened was the little flying saucer valve thing failed and I had the "catch tank" made up for the other car so I just went for it.

what about the port on the block? is that vented to the air?

inanimate_object 12-28-2006 01:14 PM

The end that goes into the intake is blocked off, the other end goes into the catch tank. I blocked off the intake by sticking a bolt in the pipe and holding it with a jubilee clip - you can see it in the pic.

LOL, reminds me of the time J9 and I rigged an aquafina bottle as the oil catch can for the FC race car. It would fill that damn bottle after every heat too.

I have my crank ventalation routed back into the intake. Its clean, i never have to check an oil canister, and our engines like to drink a little extra oil anyway.
