so here is the deal...87 tII, finally finished doing intake, rb down pipe, presil, all new gaskets, small crack in tid but fresh ghetto tape on it...so it should be ok for now while i troubleshoot and attempt to find real problem.....i get one chance to start car...thats it...if i dont crank it til she starts...all is lost...once she starts, runs nice....pretty much, just idles a little high at 1600 according to tac but it really doesnt seem that high....also seems a little sluggish...wonder if a new f pump would help that? but aside from that runs well...no real smoke...only a tiiiiny bit upon starting....my baby has a modest 74k on er....we did turn up idle a few days ago...was idling rough..prob from old ghetto tape on t i duct, so b/c we couldnt let it stall we raised idle....plan on returning to normal tom...maybe its doing some kinda instafloodin? i dunno....i gots me lots a shiny pennies for yer thoughts...thanks ya'll oh...what about afm...how do i know thats ok? trying to be logical....could it still be the timing...we did screw w/ that a little...but it seems to run too well for that to be why she wont start...is this a typical hot start problem? if so, what is the typical hot start problem solution? i just wanna

TPS, and/or flooding.

Have you tried adjusting the TPS yet?

nooooooo..but in my own defense, we (apex13b) <----thanks bro.....really didnt bother going much further once we found crack in tid....in the meantime, i taped tid and changed f filter, and crossed fingers......i guess that only works on shitty old american cars....nick did check tps w/ ohmmeter while car was off and seemed content w/ results......i think it basically gave a consistent reading....but dont take my word for it.....but im tryin.....if anybody can help interpret that, id love a deeper explanation ......impedence...resistance..etc.......but only in LAYMAN's terms....thanks.....oh, and if that does mean tps is working, i guess that still leaves room for adjusting....also throttle linkage, cuz we messed w/ it...not the tps though....how bout afm...just kinda have a bad gut feeling about it...also is too close to the action not to be involved...but thats my worthless 2 cents....gonna play around tomorrow.....will be sure to keep you posted, like it or not! ethan

the TPS did seem within spec and had no wide-opens at all. I used the resistance method to adjust it. Should a check light be used instead?

did you check the timing with a light? I have a feeling it is some stupid

little thing that you are overlooking. You sure there are no vacuum leaks or anything obvious like that?

I only know how to adjust TPS using my simple method of turning the screw and seeing if things get better or worse.

If you werent so far away I would take a ride by.
