87-88 j-spec tii engine block, blowthrough carb setup.

Hey guys, i have a very tricky problem for you!!!

My car will run for about a minute, then it will just die out. The engine seizes, and the starter CANNOT move it past this point. It is also impossible to crank it by hand, the way the engine normally turns.

If i crank it by hand, OPPOSITE the operation direction (as in, clockwise), i can un-stick it and turn the car on again. Again, it runs for one minute and seizes.

WHAT GIVES!??!!?

what could possibly be wrong?

I'm trying to find someone with a compression tester in the area. APparently not a single person has one......

Thanks in advance,

~Geoff

It would be logical to me that it would seize after one rotation, not 2,400 or so. Thats what tricks me. ALso, that you only have to back it off about an inch to make it un-stick, then its good for another 2,400 revs.

Also, the front rotor DOES have low/no compression on 2 sides of the rotor, however, it does still run for a minute.

I want a comp. tester, so i can get real numbers, not the by-ear method.

Sounds like a apex seal fell off and it jams as you turn one way. Turn it the other way and it releases the piece. Just a thought from since you say no compression on front rotor on 2 faces.

Thats was my intial guess, but he said it runs for a minute??? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

Yes, runs for a minute, locks up.

I turn it PAST that point, and it runs for another minute, then locks up.

It's done it consistantly about 4-5 times in a row, trying to get it to go.

what port do you have? what apexes? You think their expanding and getting jammed somehow?

Racer X 11-15-2003 02:37 AM

Its a stock port j-spec motor.Geoff did you get the pressure figured out yet?And update your cardomain page for crying out loud.I want to see this new setup since your 13b NA died.Sounds like a apex is getting wedged between the housing and rotor tho.You might need to rebuild this sooner than you thought.Which means you might as well port it while its apart. You should have posted this in the engine building forum.

I'm going to buy a rebuilt engine i think.

I'm so dissapointed. I paid a grand for this engine.
