Okay, so yesterday i was out driving my car all around the city running errands. Get back home, 'chill' with a friend then when i leave his house after driving for a short while i go around a corner. Nothing unusual but when i put the car in 3rd gear it has no power, i give it gas there just nothing there as if the car suddenly weighed tons and the engine just couldnt push it. Thinking i maybe put the car in 5th by accident i put the car down into what i KNOW is 2nd. Same thing. Flip on hazards pull car over and it starts to smell and slowly dies, but i turn off the engine before it does. Get my dad to help me tow it home because the starter wont turn the engine. Get home and jump it but it still doesnt have any power to flip the headlights up or roll the window/sunroof up/closed. so we just leave it. Today we were going to go get the battery tested thinking it was either a battery or alternator problem. Before we pull the battery out try to start the car just for 'fun'. And what do you know it turns over. So then i drive it around the block, every thing seems just fine. wtf?

Any suggestions?

Well, i was driving my car around today, started the first time fine, but wouldnt start the next. So turns out it was my alternator since i was at a friends house and his dad is an uber electrical engineer for telex. He did about of voltage testing and the alternator isnt charging my battery. ='(

Well, as repairs go, that isn't a bad one. The alternators do go bad on these cars. I've lost one myself. Driving home at night. Notice lights getting dimmer. Will she make it home? Nope. Dies about a mile from my house. Fortunately, we are coming back from the strip and my wife is behind me in the MPV. Pushed the car into a friendly homeowner's driveway, then got a fresh battery from the house and went back to get the car. The next day I put in a spare alternator I had laying around from the parts car I used to have. Fixed! Only problem is, now I don't have a spare. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR

Just a note here from my experinces with alt's and starters. 8 times out of 10 the brushes are worn out. If you "ring" the alt with a hamer or somthing solid like a tire iron, jack handle or breaker bar. This will let the brushes drop down a bit and get you home just fine. Just make dam shure you hit a solid spot! Somthing also, brushes are under $10 for most cars and can be R&R'd quite easly. Just use some fine sand paper to clean up the com and grease the barings and it's good for another 7 years! More so with starters, if you hear it "click" but it wont crank, give it a smack and your on your way. This is a good case of if it wont work hit it with a hammer! LOL
