i pulled the o2 sensor out of my 87 t2 today and the entire thing was covered with a white powder. it was just pure white, it wasnt even dirty just a pure clean white powder. does anyone know what this means and what is goin on with my engine? thanks a lot guys.

running lean, and maybe burning coolant.
|
nah, thats normal, they all come out looking like that
|
lol is it? the damn thing was whiter than snow. if this means anything, two weeks ago my leading plug wire started arking because of old insulation and the car was running on one rotor for like 5 mins. obviously i fixed it and it runs fine now. thanks for the input guys.

mine is a nice goldish colour are you sure?
|
Mine was like a very light greyish-white if I remember correctly.
|
yeah the white doesn't sound right to me, but i'm new to turbos
|
Its just burnt up residue. The exhaust coming out of there is crazy hot. Hell my downpipe is already bronze and its not a month installed.

Did you have trouble getting the O2 sensor out, i bought a new one and have tried to get the old one out but you would think it was welded in there with what force i am putting on it and it still won't budge.
you using a breaker? |
Mine have all been white too on a few different engines. The high temp makes it white after a while.
You can get an O2 sensor socket then put your 1/2" breaker or what you have on it and its a lot easier. or put a box wrench on it and a long pipe over the wrench for some leverage. |
I destroyed mine while removing it. Oh well it was old anyway
