hey everyone.....my cousin has a 2nd gen . whenever it is in nuetral or 1 first gear the tranny makes a clicking sound ...we heard from someone that it might be the throw out bearing. if it is would it be alright to drive with or will it do alot of damage?i.e. a trip to wildwood for a car show.

Does it make the noise with the clutch engaged, disengaged, or does it not matter?

doesnt matter anymore.....he blew it. it only did it in nuetral while idling u could here "click click click click"...... and in first but after those gears it didnt do it he said it was in first and his whole dash shook like it was gonna split in half. it even broke the idiot cluster plastic surround peice.

wtf? I wanna know what happened and why!

My tranny did the click click click thing it varied with the revs, was really load in first just noticeable in second and not noticeable over car noise in higher gears. I did this twice in 2 trannies. The first 1 I ignored and it BLEW up. Luckily the case held together but I swear someone tossed a grenade under the car' scared the **** of me.

Next tranny and $800 in parts and 100km later get the ticking again.

OK problem is a bent gear tooth on the 1st gear set. When ticking gets severe you are missing all or part of the tooth and it is only a matter of very short time when those broken teeth collide and you have one hell of a mess.

Stop driving and repair immediately.

For the most part these gear components are very expensive. It is much more reasonable to replace the tranny with a good used one.
