I have a 1986 5 speed FC that I picked up for cheap. I knew it had spark problems before I bought it. Got it home and noticed another problem, the fuel pump comes on when you turn the key to ACC and wont shut off. I've pulled all the fuses out and the relay out for it and it still kept running.

The next problem is the spark. First, I swapped the ECU out for the one I have in my 87 FC, no spark. I bought a CAS and tested it in my 87, which is a running car, it works fine. Tried it in my 86, still nothing. I've also tried other coils, I have an extra set of them as well. I'm not sure what to try next. I don't have much money in the car but i would like to get it running because of the mileage. it has 86k miles on it.

You mentioned coils but did you swap the ignitors as well?

Are you testing for spark a reliable way?

Also, check the engine to firewall ground.

I havent tried the ignitors. As far as testing for spark, ive been using a plug and turned the spare CAS over by hand. It looks like the ground is hooked up properly.

looks can be deceiving double check it and make sure its tight and the wire isnt broken in a spot

Ok, so now I have spark and I have fuel. Not sure what the problem was with the spark. The fuel problem was from someone rigging it up somehow, I ran new wires from the relay and it works like it should. Now the problem is I don't think I have enough compression. I'm not sure how long the car has been sitting though so I'm not sure if that'd be what caused it. It has to have been sitting for several years. It should be getting good compression considering it is a 85k mile car and it sounds good when i have the plugs out of it. I was wondering if theres anything i could do to get at least temporary compression to at least get it running, right now it doesnt want to fire at all.

I think it may have some bad injectors, I went out and tried to get it started. I pulled the plugs out after trying a couple of times and the T1 plug had hardly any gas on it but the T2 plug was soaked. Tomorrow im going to pull the injectors from my 87 and see if i can get it running.

Yes. 2 stroke oil in the combustion chambers. Use you best judgment on how much to use, Spin the motor for a few without the plugs to get it worked in. The oil will seal and boost compression.

And also search the forum for "unflood procedure"

tobiasfox87 03-10-2009 09:02 PM

I know how to do the normal unflooding procedures, this is actually the third FC I've owned. Hopefully it'll be nice enough tomorrow and I'll get some work done on it. I'll change the injectors and try 2 cycle oil and post with results.

good luck hope you get it running
