I got my car back together and took it for a test drive after spending 4 hrs gettin it to start https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

I went out but couldnt get the car past 35 mph the cluch catches fine but it will just rev out 3-4k didnt want to go higher it moves but cant get over 35mph.

Also when I have it idleing there apatter sound kinda like a hovering helicopter very odd. This morning I tried to start it and it wouldnt start again tried once then just wont go again. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

so you have no spark?

Nemesis 05-09-2003 05:11 PM

He would have to have some spark for the car to go 35mph. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

yes, I would think so too. However, his signature reads:

1987 Red GXL

- RB Cat Back

- Pineapple 6th Ports

- No Spark https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

So it looks like he has or had ignition issues?

My post was more sarcastic than anything, I wanted to confirm that his signature was either out of date or if he was still having ignition issues. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

yeah i have spark but its like i dont have enough to get the car to kick over it acts like is is just flooding I replaced the T Coil thats how i got it to start and a lot of ATF. After it warmed up it started "easier" still took flooring the petal and cranking tell rpms kicked up and it started. When i had the motor out the clutch looked ok i know it has a lot of oil in it though the tranny was black. Could it be an alignment issue? Im more worried about it not starting than the clutch. I should just start right up shouldnt it?

pengaru 05-09-2003 05:31 PM

how do the plugs look? take me all out and inspect them (and clean them if they are all fouled)

I had a car that was giving similar problems and when I checked for spark with a timing light there was intermittant spark, removed the plugs and they were fouled really badly due to the engine burning alot of oil. Cleaned the plugs off with a wirebrush and put them back in, everything worked great right after that, including consistent firing on the inductive timing light.

How did you check for spark?

FuzzyX7 05-09-2003 05:48 PM

Yeah brand new plugs thats how it got it started. I am having intermittent flashing on the timing light didnt even think about the spark. I pulled a plug grounded it and checked each wire for spark thats how i found T Coil was bad. Could it be the wires the reason for the intermittent spark? Hope its not my L Coil heh

pengaru 05-09-2003 06:02 PM

Could be wires, I've had some cases where the inductive light just plain sucks on the FC's.

The best way is to take the plug out like you did and confirm spark on all plugs, once thats all verified to be reliably consistent, check the timing. If the timing checks out, you have to look at air and fuel (and the things which control that)

of course, the first order of business before pulling your hair out is verifying good compression.

FuzzyX7 05-09-2003 06:20 PM

yeah i did a compression check but didnt check the face compression was 100psi gonna check face tonight i didnt touch the motor so dont think it could be that issue maybe hope not lol https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png
