Thumbs down

Hi everybody!

I just replaced a totally worn out suspension on my '88 GTU with:

KYB GR2 + Gas-A-Just

Eibach Pro Kit

Energy Suspension Master Bushing Kit

Racing Beat Rear Steering Eliminator Bushing Kit

New Strut Tops + a lot of new miscellanious bushings

New Pillow *****

New tie rods + tie rod's ends

My old springs were worn out and car has been lower than it should. After the installation of new springs it should have been at least stay the same or even become slightly higher (old springs were too bad), but it became even lower!

Now the clearance between the wheel and fender is no more than 1 inch, although it is a Pro Kit, not a Sport Line from Eibach!!! And the ride is VERY harsh now, i can't push the front of the body down with the weight of my whole body (rear is pushing a little). And the car now handles even a worser than it was and is unstable on speeds over 60 MPH...

All in all i have a feeling that i've installed something wrong - the springs or the shocks... If anybody can give any clue on what to look for i'd be really apreciate!

does adjusting the shocks do anything? The eibach springs are stiffer in back than in front (proportional to stock, front is stiffer than rear overall, but the rear increased more than front) and are meant to reduce understeer, which may be contributing to the bad handling/instability... not to mention being stiffer than stock and making the ride harsh, coupled with the new shocks, which may be set incorrectly.however, i think your main problem is...

You need an alignment! If you just completely disassembled your suspension to put in the bushings, how do u know all the wheels are pointing in the same direction? you dont. Go get a 4 wheel alignment, that should clear up everything besides some of the harshness and the height.

Forget to mention that there's also a new ball-joints.

And i did alignment on all 4 wheels off course... That's a must after a job like that.

I wrote i have KYB GR2 and Gas-A-Just which are NOT adjustable...

BTW at the moment bad handling i would explain as understeer (i think) which is because of too stiff and too low front...

I was thinking maybe springs need some specific orientation which i missed?

I ran the pro kits with AGX's at one point and had no problems. From what I understand, GR2's are more stock replacements and don't work well with lowering springs. Mine was NOT that low... if anything the pro-kit springs are some of the least lowering you can buy. What exactly did you replace in the front strut assembly? Did you get the right upper strut mounts?
