Sup ppl...Juss finish throwing a street ported engine, Dellorto Carburetor, Manual Tranny, and MSD amplified ignition. I did everything at one shot ( I know a lil risky) but thank God it worked! My baby runs like a dream whippin all that test https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png For everything I spent 300 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png I love gettin deals. Everything runs smooth idles at 1500 wich is great being the engine is street ported. All the work was done by me and my pops Im 17 hes teaching me alot. The car came with headers and full exgaust purrin like a kitten, shes fast, very fast but ofcourse we will allways crave more speed. I drive my car regularly so I dont wanna go crazy like bridgeportin or nething, I was juss wonderin what can I do for a lil more speed without stressin my engine on the streets?? Any info would help being Im learning everything new.Thanx alot fellas...sIcE NyC

a street ported motor should hold a fine idle well below 1500rpm....

shiggyshaggy 02-25-2003 02:06 PM

Does this mean theres something wrong in my car is 1500rpm idle ok?

vosko 02-25-2003 02:08 PM

who built the engine ?

there are a number of things that control your idle, I'm just saying technically it should be able to idle lower than that just fine, being an 80's fuel injected vehicle there are alot of variables at play here... you could have a vacuum leak and/or things out of adjustment. Check out the shop manual for TPS, idle, idle a/f mixture adjustments, and check if you have any vacuum leaks. If it's a series 5 it won't have idle a/f mixture adjustment but the rest still hold true... you didnt mention what year your car was from what I saw.

Well you should be able to adjust the idle speed on the Carb. I am not familiar with Dellorto's but most just have an idle speed screw. You should be able to get a nice 900 rpm idle. That is where mine is at and it is about right. I had it set at around 700-750 at first, but after I put on the exhaust it would want to die at stop lights if you didn't down shift coming up to a stop.

pengaru 02-25-2003 04:24 PM

it's carbed? oh **** i can't read

Geoffman72 02-25-2003 04:41 PM

I was going to say. You and Vosko both cant read. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

As long as its tuned right, even a carbed street port should idle below 1k/rpm.

As for more speed it sounds like you've got just about everything an NA could want for speed. Just keep her tuned and running well.

Oh, and post pics https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Street ported engines usually idle around 1100-1300rpm.You might want to lower it to 1100.Glad to hear it rips.If you still have any cats in the system pull those out if you want more power. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Apex13B 02-25-2003 07:32 PM

there is an idle adjustment screw on the throttle linkage on the carb arm

shiggyshaggy 02-26-2003 02:36 PM

thanks for the advice, I got the car to idle at 1200 now, found out by the screw on the carb https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png I juss thought 1500 was ok, it runs good now I gotta battery eatin sound system so 1200 keeps a good charge, and I like the high revin sound too. My cars an 88 don know whats the engines year. would a supercharger be too much on the engine at normal driving? If im gonna put boost I just want a more simpal system.

shiggyshaggy 02-26-2003 02:40 PM

and Ill get some pics when I fix my fender and bumper. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

my street port 13b w/stock ecu idles around 700-800 ... thats with aux ports open too.

1Revvin7 02-26-2003 07:21 PM

yeah only bp idle that high

Apex13B 02-26-2003 08:49 PM

that sounds like unsync'ed carb throats also.....you can use a tube held up to your ear and down inside the carb throat at idle and adjust the idle/air bypass screw so that they are the same tone..

sync it to the lower tone....

ROTARYROCKET7 02-27-2003 10:21 AM

take out the cats...... mucho power

shiggyshaggy 02-27-2003 06:22 PM

Thanks guys but my engine is running fine I dont want to mess with it nemore and have it spit in my face. So Ima leave it alone. Plus it keeps a good charge on my battery, I have a Zues 6000 amp powering 3 12" Kicker XPL Subs in Bazooka tubes, and an MTX amp 450 watts powerin my for 8" voice midranges. So the extra revvin of the engine is good for my battery...
