Hey all... i have a 87 rx7 GXL N/A MT and im having some starting problems.

I've read through a bunch of posted topics, but couldnt find anyone with the same problem.

I get in the car and turn it to the ON position and all the lights up on the top of the dash come on. Well, ALOT more than I've seen in other peoples pictures. Theres red ones and orange ones too.

When I push the clutch in to start it, and turn the key, the starter spins and the engine cranks but it gets no spark. I THINK. If it were a piston engine thats what i'd say the problem is. But rotors are new to me.

Checked all the fuses and they look okay. Some in the engine bay have a bit of green on the filiment, but should still be fine. (its on the headlight ones anyways)

Also, the interior lights, the turn signals, headlights, headlight motors, door lights, radio, and high beams dont come on at all. Its like the fuses for all those are blown. I cant hear the fuel pump come on either, unless its really quiet, but i doubt it.

So am i overlooking a fuse maybe? I've also heard someone talking about the 2nd generations having circuit breakers?

Thanks in advance

circuit breaker is by the clutch pedal on the fuse box, its a little red button. sometimes my ac trips it and shuts off so i have to get down there and reset it... ******* electrical **** sucks

your having some issues with the fuse block on the front of the driver's side strut tower, i'd start replacing fuses and double checking grounds. The headlights, headlight doors, fuel pump/injectors, coils ect are all run through that fuse block. advanced auto sells the fuese here

would the circuit breakers have anything to do with the no start problem?

theres fuses inside under the dash on the drivers side. One of those is the problem for the lights/other things not coming on more than likely. The fuel pump doesnt turn on unless you jumper the pin or are starting, not just with the keyin on posistion. And it sounds to me like the motor might be flooded. Take the plugs out remove the egi fuses and crank it over put it all back in and see if it starts.

where is the egi fuse?

The guy before me rewired the battery cables for some reason and made a mess, so I redid it by doing the following....

-used 2 gauge wire to run hot lead to the starter, as well as running the main fuse to the hot side of the battery.

-then used a 2 gauge wire to the body of the car.

probably forgetting a ground somewhere there... one that goes to the electric system i'd say......

oh and the car is up in the front on jackstands... so it may be flooded

it might also be the ignition switch is bad

exit13b 02-21-2005 03:42 PM

naw it cranks over but wont spark... its not getting any spark from the ignition coil that has T1 and T2 on it. the other pack that has L1 & L2 i put a wrench up to and they both spark a little... but like i said the T1-T2 pack doesnt spark.

someone told me thats the primary coil pack...like i stated before, i have no clue when it comes to rotaries.

how can i tell if the fuel pump is comming on?

exit13b 02-21-2005 03:44 PM

oh and i got all the interior lights/headlights/radio to work.... i rigged the main fuse by bolting both wires together since the fuse was blown, but i replaced it and i guess the part where the main fuse is supposed to go powers all the other fuses there on the block
