I've got a 1986 rx-7, I'm not sure what model specific. I've just been driving it for a few months. I noticed that just before 4,000 rpm it lets off a little, then goes again. It does this in every gear, and is noticable while accel-ing hard (which I do, like, all the time). What's the deal? BTW, it runs great.

Other questions:

What does the air pump do (besides pump air)?

What will happen if I remove the airpump?

I think my shocks need replacing (my CD skips when I hit reflectors), what is a good set?

Why does it hurt when I pee?

Can you take your key out when it's running? (I can)

What's with Jell-O?

I also need new tires-any suggestions? (hence the screen name)

Well, it seems like you have the famous second gen 3800 rpm stumble.

Sometimes its a pretty easy fix, and other times, its a royal PITA.

The air pump sends air to your cats so they dont get clogged, if you remove it, you'll get clogged cats eventually due to the rotarys "rich" running nature. The other option is tossing the cats. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png



In terms of shock/struts, id recommend the KYB AGXs, and the Tokico Illuminas or blues depending on what you want to do with the car.

Id recommend the Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712s if you want a good performing cheap tire that wont see snow.

Where do I find instructions on regrounding the ECU? I honestly have not idea what that means.



So if I get that Bonez downpipe, I could remove the airpump? That pipe seems like a good deal. Of course, I don't know much.



I'm planning on using the car for just running red lights, spanking Hondas, and general hauling of butt.



Are ignition locks all that necessary?

the ecu ground is on the top of the engine block, you should be able to get to it with a u joint and a 12mm socket.



if you get rid of the cats, you can remove the airpump. (if you need to smog the car put the cats/ airpump is a safe place)
