Hello guys, i just got a mazda and i'm new to rotary engines. I just got a 1986 rx-7. It has been sitting for about 6 years. It might need work on the fuel injectors, needs work on brakes (the brakes are sticking), the exhaust system needs to be replaced, exterior needs minor work (almost no rust/few small dings), and the interior needs minor work (some plastic parts are broke/some cloth ripped). It has a 13 B engine. Does anyone have any tips to help me get it started? I really want to get it started a.s.a.p.! Any replies/suggestions would be wonderful!

I forgot to add that the battery is shot. It has no charge on it left.

When i work on it i swap my battery from my civic into it. I've got it to turn over but it doesn't want to start. I put some more gas in it, i'm going to check this afternoon if the spark plugs are putting out a spark. Where is the fuel pump located? I was planing on pulling the fuel line out of the fuel pump to see if it was getting any gas. Thanks for the reply!

The fuel pump is in the tank, in the hatch under the carpet there is a cover you pull out to get to it. Try the ATF trick. Change out the old gas with new gas. change the fuel filter.

if you want to see if the engine is getting fuel, you can pull the fuel line off of the 'rats nest' and see if fuel is coming out of the hose when you try start it... the hoses are visible in this picture:

both the fuel feed and fuel return lines are visible here, one has a white zip tie on it, they are right next to eachoter, right by the upper right spark plug visible in the photograph.



The one you want to disconnect is the one that leads down the firewall to the fuel filter (also visible if you bend over and look down) thats the high pressure feed line.



Wether you really want to disconnect it is a different story, you can usually tell if the pump is functioning because it makes noise when it's running.

i also bought a rx7('88) and i haven't even seen it (got it real cheap), but it sounds like we might have the same problem . We figured out fuel wasn't geting past the injectors. We then hooked a 12v to them and it started up but shortly flooded because 12 volts are to much . So we are workin on replacin the electrical system. At least i know it runs.

If the fuel isn't getting pumped, do i need to replace the pump or could i "prime" it somehow? I really don't wanna shell out $100 for a new fuel pump.

check all the fuses before you go buying parts...you'll be pounding you head against a brick wall if you spend lots of $$$ and find out a 50 cent fuse is blown
