Ok, first off.. lemme say i love this car.. i said i would never buy one.. but i fell in love with it! haha.. Also, i know nothing about FC's.. im an FD man twice over, and its been a while since ive messed with a rotary period, so im a little rusty.

1. My cars differential is clunking, only when i release the gas while driving, it kind of jerks... i assume its the diff. Is there a fix for this, or do i need a whole new unit? If i need a new unit, what other parts should be fixed while im at it? Should i go with aftermarket or stock? (ie. Kaaz vs. Stock diff)

2. My 5th gear syncro grinds only when i shift quickly into 5th, whats the average cost to fix this? Also, the 2nd gear sync. grinded on me a few times when i would down shift too quickly or slam it into 2nd gear.

3. My cars radiator fan shroud is missing, where can i get one at? whats the average cost? Is there an alternative?

4. The car starts up perfectly, only thing is, it seems as if i have to turn the key over a few times for it to catch, OR i have to jam the clutch all the way down, more than i would imagine for it to catch (im not too sure which one it is yet) Would this be a starter going bad or something else? Whats the fix cost on this aswell?

5. Greddy FMIC for T2, any opinions or comments on it? Im looking at getting an FMIC here in a few days and just wondered if i should go custom (which will run me about 800) or just get a greddy unit. My aim is going to be about a max of 400whp.

6. Wheel specs.. im going to buy some wheels asap aswell, what are the correct offsets for an 18x8F, 18x9R setup? and a 17x8F, 17X9R set up?

i think thats about it for now.. if anyone can help me out with some or all of these questions, id greatly appreciate it... thanks in advance!!

1. i have no clue....sorry

2. avg cost is to open the tranny and replace the synchro that is dead, i would replace all while its open though

3. assuming that the S4 and S5 fan shrouds are the same...i have one....i dunno how much to ask...but just gimme an IM ill ask around how much they should be

4. dunno on this one

5. good unit, hard to do FMIC on FC cause no matter what you gotta cut some of the supports and ****....its kinda expensive..i just bought a similar sized one for 250 on ebay.... then i gotta make the piping and get coupplers and t clamps...but both ways will be good

6. i dunno if many people run 18s on FCs...im not a wheel expert

1) The clunking you hear is not a broken differential but a differential mount, it is located on the top of the nose piece. you will need to replace it, do a search for differential mount.

2) You will have to contact a transmission shop in your area, the reason is that price quotes vary from coast to coast, but figure around $450 to start

3)The shrouds are avaialble all the time on E-bay or you can pick up one from a member, usually fairly reasonable, less than $20 usually.

4)could be the clutch swith out of adjustment, and not getting full contact when the clutch is in, or your ignition switch is wearing out

5)FMIC is personal choice, but the custom may be the way to go, you get the size and efficiency you want.

6) wheels, your on your own, I don;t have good sizes to help you, but I know the guys will chime in and hook you up with some facts

Benny 01-17-2004 06:45 PM

i ordered some wheels today hehe.. 18x8.5 all around BBS LM https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png this is th eplace i buy all my wheels from.. they said a +38 offset will do.. i sure hope so.. if not.. im not payin for them when they dont fit!! lol

djgiantrobot 01-17-2004 10:50 PM

you may have a hard time fitting the 8.5 in the front with that offset on stock fenders, i suggest staying with a 235 tire or smaller. The starter problem might be a bad connection on the starter itself as its exposed to the underside of the car, check the connections there. Where did you order you wheels from? you can PM me that if you want. Its well worth it to buy the FMIC kit cuz the piping is tricky to do if you are keeping the PS and AC, even the greddy kits need some modification to clear the master cylinder on a US car. 8in front and 9in rear is usually the max you can run with about 38 offset unless you want to pull the fenders out, this is with a 235 front tire and 255 rear.

Racer X 01-18-2004 01:57 AM

Your answer for #1 sounds like bad driveshaft U-joints and not a mount.

teknics 01-18-2004 02:06 AM

dammit thecamel stole all my answers.

but yea benny i suffer from #1 as well, frestyle thought my car was breaking down lol.

yeah, i think imma go with a 225 tire up front and a 245 out rear. And im starting to hear alot of suspension clunking :( oh well.. ill get it fixed.. i also fouled out my plugs tonight.... ruined my night.. i had to spend 2 hours on the side of the road changing plugs... The bad thing is.. the only autoparts store, only had 4 trailing plugs available.. so the car will sit over the weekend til i can get the leading plugs ordered :(

teknics 01-18-2004 02:08 AM

oh and i got a fan shroud i think in my shed still.

kevin.

djgiantrobot 01-19-2004 12:21 AM

you WANT to run all trailing plugs bro, burek9s all around

TheCamel 01-19-2004 12:33 AM

I concur

teknics 01-19-2004 12:34 AM

bur9eq's. wat is this burek9 talk?

also depending on mods all trailing may be alright, some like it, some stay stock, its a choice thing.

oh and benny youre going to notice somethign different then fd's, most fc owners are "teh cheap" so prepare to hear tons of praise for the smallest things, its a real ego boost.

these things are true

Everyone nailed your questions pretty much, I remember seeing your name on Houston-Imports. Red FD with a carbon fiber hood, that I think you ended up trading for my friend Kevins stock hood. Anyways, glad to see you back in the rotary camp https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR

you said someone told you and it should be fine, did you ever actually

do it?

I figure until you get it fixed, like a day or so tops

Benny 01-19-2004 04:07 PM

i ordered a 2-row greddy fmic kit today https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif wheels should be here tomorrow, and fmic next week.. w00t! does anyone have it, that can tell me what i need to do to install it? (other than the obvious, im talkin like.. anything that needs cutting or something)thanks!

Turbo II 01-19-2004 04:17 PM

no actually i never did it, i just sold the car that way and told the guy how to fix it. plus i fixed all my other problems i had with it about an hour before i sold the car

teknics 01-19-2004 04:52 PM

i believe all the "kit" fmic's require sheetmetal cutting and front bumepr and headlight removal.

thats what i avoided by making my own https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Cool, I want to check out your FC anyway. Let me know when you will be in town.

teknics 01-19-2004 09:03 PM

u running a stock turbo through that fmic BTW?

kevin.

Benny 01-19-2004 10:58 PM

according to the previous owner its an "upgraded" t3/t4 turbo.. he wasnt too clear on it, since thats how he got it.. and so im in the blue as well

i think t3/t4 is smaller then stock, either that or just a t3 is smaller i forget.

what kind of psi you running? the amount of pipe and size of that i/c may cause an unwanted pressure drop, as im pretty sure my npr is going to cause a nasty pressure drop.

IIRC the greddy pieps are like 8000feet long.

but then again it depends on the turbo, grab some pics, best guess is its a hybrid like mine but ive also seen modded t3/t4's around town so who knows.
