trying to change carpet, need to remove dash to do so, here's what I've remove: 2 bolts on each side of dash by doors, 2 bolts holding steering column, 4 bolts (2 on either side) at bottom closer to shifter, and I was told there's 3 bolts under the defroster panel, or something like that, but I can't find them. My car's in the middle of my dad's front yard right now, so I'm kind of in a rush.

also, there was this thing that fell out from under the driver's side dash. it was a blue box and a small black one with a knob on it to adjust hi to lo. have no idea what it is, and what the adjustments are for. thinking maybe aftermarket alarm that I had disconnected.

give me a minute let me find the post that had that info

Turbo II 12-08-2002 07:08 PM

i thought i saw something about this last week that j9fd3s posted, i guess im wrong. sorry

Baldy 12-08-2002 07:20 PM

no, he did post it...that's part of what I was working off of...he had said in part of it that there were 3 bolts under or behind the defrost panel, but I didn't understand that part, and can't find those bolts.

j9fd3s 12-08-2002 07:30 PM

you have to take the defrost panel off. under the middle defrost thing theres a bolt, and then some clips, and it comes off (be veery careful its sharp) and then the 3 dash bolts are super easy.

maybe I'll run over on my lunch break and try that...thanks for the info

Turbo II 12-09-2002 02:53 PM

i knew he posted it

Baldy 12-11-2002 04:41 PM

ok, I got around to getting that one bolt off of the clip, but how do I get the clips off? I should just pm jdfd3s, but someone else might have some insight to help this slow individual...

j9fd3s 12-11-2002 04:51 PM

you just gently pry the whole panel out with a screwdriver or similar. be very very careful the edge of that panel is amazingly sharp

ignore that pm...thanks

Baldy 12-11-2002 06:08 PM

ok...got all the old carpet out without taking the dash all the way out...I got it out with the help of a utility blade and some anger-driven force

now I noticed that something was trying to hold it back under the center console where I could see...in the new carpet I can see there's a little plastic eyehole, and a cutout part of the carpet right at that part....what goes there? I'm gonna try my darndest to slip the new carpet in without having to take out the dash

man, like everything, I didn't think it was gonna be this difficult...

Baldy 12-11-2002 06:14 PM

after discussing it with my father, I might end up just slitting the new carpet up the middle and sliding it under the best I can...but i'd still like to know what's the restriction that's up under there

j9fd3s 12-11-2002 06:22 PM

its either the heater box or the bracket that holds the dash

mike

Baldy 12-11-2002 06:28 PM

good to know....I think I'm gonna go ahead and slit it up the middle....any down side to that?

Apex13B 12-11-2002 10:01 PM

there shouldn't be any issuses with cutting it up the middle

Baldy 12-12-2002 06:58 AM

ok, I know you guys are prolly sick of this damned thread, but I'll update anyway

slit the carpet up the middle, got it in nicely...now I have to find time to reattach the dash and seats

oh, and every little piece that had a chance of breaking did, and I don't care...I'll just call it a sleeper...that never wakes up

feel free to lock this topic, I'm kinda sick of seeing it myself

j9fd3s 12-12-2002 10:49 AM

haha, i know what you mean
