Hey i know the stock size are 205/60-15 for my gxl but i need new tires. I have some BJ tires and they suck in the rain and am in the market for a new pair.

1) what kinda tires came stock with the gxl, company wise, and whats is equivalent or a bit better now?

2) I was recomended the Daytons HR, which go for $75/each and are comparible with the Bridgestone but which ones?

3) what other tires do you guys use and what do you recommend dor an all season, winter/rain, lil bit of highspeed dipping

These are what im loooking at

Daytons HR $75

Falkens Ziex ZE-512, 205/60R-15 91h B $52

Nitto NT 460 Premium Touring $54

here it is

The Potenza G009 is Bridgestone's High Performance All-Season tire that was developed to meet the needs of sports car, coupe and sedan drivers who want to be associated with the performance heritage of the Bridgestone brand in racing. The Potenza G009 combines Bridgestone's advanced UNI-T Technology with affordable pricing.

Bridgestone's UNI-T Technology focuses on three primary tire components, the beads, casing and tread, which influence overall performance by enhancing comfort, handling and traction. On the outside, the Potenza G009 molds a Long Link Carbon Black tread compound into a directional tread design that features stable tread blocks for sporty handling, flowing grooves that channel water towards the sides of the tire to resist hydroplaning, and independent, siped shoulder blocks to provide the snow biting edges needed for winter traction. A continuous, arrow-shaped center rib helps reduce noise while providing constant road contact to increase straight-line stability. Internally, the Potenza G009 features a Computer Optimized Component System which blends twin, high-tensile steel belts with spiral-wrapped jointless belt edge strips to stabilize the tread area to enhance handling, high-speed capability and ride quality while minimizing weight.

Bridgestone Potenza G009 tires feature black sidewall styling with black letters reversed out of a circumferential serrated band. They are H-speed rated and available in 65-, 60-, 55-, 50-, 45- and 40-series sizes for 14" to 17" wheel diameters.

Falken Azenis...they hold the road like crazy...and their price/treadlife/performance is really good. I"ve used them exclusively, and love them.

I wish you lived closer. I have a hook up for Toyo Proxes Ra-1's Roace compound.

While the treadwear is only 50 and they will not last long I can get 4 205/60-15's for $100. So who cares. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Mazdadrifter has a set and they have amazing grip. But they will only last about 2000-5000 miles.

am I close enough?? That would be awesome.

ColinRX7 04-19-2004 10:16 AM

Yeah ship a set my way Jim!

If Jim can't hook you up, try Falken Azenis.. Just for the summer. I doubt they will last until winter, which is good, because you shouldn't drive on azenis in the winter. But those are truly amazing tires.

FCmaniac 04-19-2004 10:52 AM

I agree, the Azenis sports are the best bang for buck street tire available. You wouldn't believe the stick through corners with those things.

Whenever the term "winter" is used when talking about tires, does that just mean on snow or icy roads? When I'm shopping for tires, I'm never clear on that. I never see snow, but I often drive in rain. So does that mean I should always shop for a "summer" tire, and keep away from "all-season" or "winter?"

Yokohama AVS ES100's.

The Good - good drip, predictable breakaway, good treadwear for a performance tire, does't hydroplane at sensible speeds

Bad - will track rain groves, V rating is not available in a 205/60 15. You'll have to get a 215/60. Then the question becomes, how wide are the wheels.

Miscellaneous notes

"All season performance tire" is an oxymoron

Performance tire + snow = body work and a tow fee

Shane.Trammell 04-21-2004 09:47 AM

hey i got some barums from discount tire and they are great. in the rain they wont even spin from a start, and they hold the road like nothing else. they were like 63 each

Nan da yo! 04-21-2004 01:14 PM

I agree with the azenis sport, its like I was driving a new car, and they cost me barely nothing (about $40 for my teeny weenie 14s). But don't drive on them in the rain, as cool as the tread pattern is its not ment for slick surfaces.

Any thoughts on the Kumho Ecsta 711? A few reviews from T2 owners at Tirerack.com seemed really positive, and they're only $55 each.

Also, an article over at teamfc3s.org said that 245/45's will fit on the stock rim, and the $55 prace tag was for that size.

After my wreck, I think I want as much contact patch as possible. Anyone here gone with that wide a tire on stock rims?

I have 711's on my dd. They are good for the money, not ultimate grip, but good all around for rain and treadlife
