I purchased a rebuilt motor two weeks ago and finally got it in the car and running this long weekend. The reason that I am looking for help is the motor is smoking seriously and I am at a loss of what to do and places to look for problems. Some info on the motor is that it is an 87 TII motor that was rebuilt 3000 miles ago. I have a stock S4 turbo in it, RB down pipe, front mount intercooler, and a FCD are the things that I can remember at the moment. I got the motor in, all hooked up, no leaks on the ground and fired it up. It kicked over and it fired up on the first crank. When it was getting up to operating temp, it started to smoke more and more until I could not take it anymore and I shut it off. I did this three more times, letting the motor get up to operating temp., then shutting it off and letting it cool down to air temp. The smoke did not get any less and seemed to stay the same each time that I let it run.



Things that I checked are the oil, coolant and turbo. The oil does not seem to have any air bubbles in it, the coolant does not smell like anything but coolant and does not have any color differences, and the turbo I checked on the compressor side and it did not have any oil in it. I am not sure what else this could be and it is driving me crazy. Could there be a timing issue, could the oil injectors be putting too much oil in the rotor housings? I have more questions than answers at this point. Any sugguestions, previous issues that you have had that pertains to this. Also, ask any questions I may have not answered and I will answer them ASAP cause I have waited too long to get this thing running. Thanks.

What color is what does it smell like, coolant, oil, fuel? You sure you have the timing right, plug wires hooked up in the right order, coils are good?

The color of it is a blue/white smoke and it smelled like oil, def. not coolant cause it did not smell like coolant. It is also running super rich cause there are 720's for primaries and secondaries where the computer thinks it is 550's at the same duty cycle therefore it is very rich.



The plug wires are hooked up correctly and the coils produce a spark on all four plugs.



As for the timing on it, I have not done it nor am I completely sure that I know which area of timing you are talking about. Resetting it on the CAS, Adv./Ret. the timing with a gun, or checking to see if the injectors are firing when needed for the fire cycle in the housings.
