Ok, So ive been doing some work on my 87 TII the last couple days and i a test for my air control valve where you unhook the hose At the air pump and make sure there is no vacuum @ Idle, Then you increase engine speed to over 3000 rpm and then snap the throttle shut and make sure there is vacuum. Well, there is no vacuum on mine, But i dont want to go and replace my air control valve if that really isn't the problem. And the reason i am checking all this stuff is because i am storing the car for winter and want to solve the problem of the car bucking back and forth under deceleration in 3rd gear Around 2-2500 rpms. I know it's isn't my throttle sensor cause that checks ok. What else should i check?
Oh, and also, I was going to check my thermostat because i have no heat in the car, but i can't find the damn coolant drain plug... I know it's under the left side of the radiator but hell... i can't find it. Thanks, Anthony. |
If you have a jack, jack the front up some and run yor hand across the bottom of the radiator, and check good it could be covered in dirt/mud/oil anything just check good. I bet its still there https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.gif
|
the coolent drain is in the center of th rad. there is a hole in the belly pan to access the screw. and i would go ahead and replace the acv
|
Thanks guys. Do you happen to know around about how much an acv costs? And do you think that is causing my problem?

Anthony New, they cost more than you want to pay https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif http://mazdatrix.com/getprice.asp?partnum=13-9900-N332 you can look for them on ebay for cheap used though but you may have to go threw a couple before you find a really good one https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif p.s. most people just remove this thing https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif |
Holly ****!!! Yea, that is a little more than i want to pay... I don't know what to do now...I don't really want to do the ebay thing and have to keep replacing it, that'd be a pain in the ass. looks like my only option is to fork out the $430.00. If i do that it better solve the problem or i'll go crazy! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

So, ive been working on taking the acv out So i can take it to school tonight (i go to school for automotive) And See if my teacher has any ideas of further testing on it and i can't even get the damn thing out! lol. im going throught all this trouble and i don't even know if the acv is what's causing my problem... I lost so i have the car all ripped apart and don't even know what to do. And to top it all off i live in ohio so this little good weather thing we have going on right now isn't going to last long.... **** https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

Do you guys know where the water thermo sensor is on a 87 TII? And could that cause bogging probs during deceleration?
|
N332-13-990 VALVE, AIR 399.06, INTERNET PRICE + FREIGHT.. Be sure that's the problem, be an expensive paper weight if it didn't solve it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif
We usually charge 10% frt but let us ship it ground and we can save ya $20 on freight.. I have Non turbo so am not well qualified to help diag the rpoblem... Best of luck. neil |
Thanks Neil, Im going to do some more work today on her and we'll see how it goes.
|
Do you guys know the most common cause of afterburn or like popping noises in the exhaust at an idle when the car is cold, And it happens alot when RPMs are increased to around 2200 RPM? Is that normal?

Is that normal? its a rotary, it pops whenever it feels like it. my cars does the exact same, i just chalked it up to it being cold and having a straight through exhaust. |
the coolan temp sensor is on the bottom of the fill neck on the block a green connector should be pluged in to it but i dont think that would cause the problem
|
Thanks guys, Im going to do some more work today.. Today is the day i can feel it...lol. If not i just get really drunk tonight and wait till' tomorrow. Hell.. I'll get really drunk regardless. lol.
|
good for you get drunk as a celebration, after you fix it i mean lol

So, I have another quick question. I was going to get an HKS intake kit for the car but i was then told they Aren't very good. So now i think im just going to get a universal k&n filter, And i'll probally get a vinspeed heat shield.
I kinda like this filter: http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.as...tnumber=RX-4990 Hope this adapter works: http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail....rtnumber=151603 Is this all i'll need to make this work? Thanks Anthony. |
Oh and the maf adapter do you know wherei could get one of those?
|
i use a hks intake and have no problems with it it also looks cool.
as for maf sensor look in the parts for sale section or ebay b/c a new one is gonna cost aloot |
I meant the mass air flow adapter to connect the universal filter to.
Anthony. |
ohhh i got mine off ebay for like 3 bucks works fine no probs and its metal probly wont break
|
Thanks. That's probably what i'll do.
Anthony |
ive heard a few stories of the HKS foam pod type filter coming apart after some time and letting your engine or turbo inhale big chunks of foam.
|
well the inserts are suposed to be changed regularly like any other filter any way has never happend to me i belive its a good product but thats just my opinion
|
Yea, I just decided to go with K&N. My car is still being weird. I've done a few things with it. One of those is adjusting the tps with a multimeter And turning the adjuster screw untill it read around 1,000 OHMS. It seemed a little better But i can still tell something isn't right... Anyway, I just went and got a Silicome Vaccum hose kit And started replacing a few vaccum hoses. (Figured it was about time to replace the 20 year old ones...lol) But im worried because the new vac hoses seem flimsier than the original ones. Should i be worried or do you think the old ones are just really hard from being old? So, yea, And the new hoses are blue which i think will look awesome! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.gif
|
Oh and one more thing, getting back into the intake subject. What do i do with that hose that is connected from the air pump to the back of the airbox? Thats also got me a little confused at the moment.
Thanks. Anthony. |
Well... I just totally fucked my day up...I was working on replacing more vac lines and was making pretty good progress untill i got to the part where the vac lines run from the steel line to those little plastic box thingys on the left side under the intercooler... well i snapped one of those little plastic prongs (The thing the vac line gets pushed onto) snapped it right off... ****...why me... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif
|
Yea... Im thinking it's the Pressure Regulator solenoid valve is what it broke off of... ****.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.gif I wonder how much $ those go for?
