Any one know where I can get a new driveshaft for my 86 MT?

They say the steel one can hold up to atleast 600HP. From CA to TX, I recieved my shaft the day after I ordered.

Get a used one. News ones run like $3-400.. You can find one on the boards for $40ish.

I have a really nice one with no u-joint play out of my s4 gxl.......work in your car just fine. pm me if your interested.

you can also just get your fixed at a driveshaft shop, look in

the FAQ section for the part # for the ujoints

do they rebuild the u-joint bearings? i thought they weren't replaceable since the shaft is one peice.

Now, I never posted pics of the install, because it didn't even last one day. The new joints were a bitch to get in (I have access to a press, and I've done dozens of u-joints before). They were VERY tight, and the cross distance didn't seem quite right. I did finally get them hammered in there, but the clips were stressed.





Well, mount the bad boy up, drive the 50 miles to work, no problem. Driving home, hit my 120mph stretch, and one of the caps blows out. NOT FUN. Limped home at 20mph the whole way, with the entire car shaking violently. Ended up getting a boneyard shaft for $30 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

yikes, so you did this all yourself and didnt consult a driveshaft shop?



you know there are shops that specialize in this sort of thing?

I've done probably a dozen driveshafts for different vehicles, including rebuilding a double cardan joint. I've swapped u-joints with a hammer and sockets while sitting in the mud on a 4x4 trail. I have plenty of experience with u-joints. These simply did not fit as advertised. If you were to mill .25-.5mm off the inner faces of the yokes, it would have been fine.

yep go with power train it is cheap and they ship very fast, i have had it for 2 years w/o any problems ( i drag race alot 300 passes in 2 years)
