ok i want to take the air pump off of my 88 gxl non turbo.i need to know everything that is required to do so.if i take the air pump off do i also just take the belt off for it? i nkow i need a block off plate to cover the whole when it is removed.when i remove it i know the ports wont open.can i just pull out the port sleeves, wire them open? since the ports do not open when the airpump is removed can it be left that way and still function normally? do all the ports need to open? what happens if i do not wire them open or remove them when the airpump is removed? would i need to have a dual alternator pully setup? thanks for answering, any other answers or suggestions would greatly be appreciated

Are you talking about your ACV or your air pump? Or both?

What year car?

I'm not an N/A guy but I don't think you need the air pump to open the 6 ports on an 86-88, it opens off back pressure I think. the 89-91 opens off the airpump.

if you remove the airpump. you either need to block off the line from the air pump to the ACV. or remove the ACV and block it off since it now does nothing with no air pump.

if you 6 ports don't open, you loose upper rpm power. if you wire them open, you lose bottom end power. working 6 ports is the best of both.

the dual pulley would be recommaned as with no airpump the belt barly goes around the water pump and it could slip causing the car to over heat.

You are correct.

sleeperRX7, Do you have exhaust on your car? If you do, and your car is a S4(87-88) cap off where the hose runs from your airbox to your air pump. Remove your air pump (should be 4 bolts) and air pump belt. Remove your ACV (3 10mm nuts). I think that there are two electrical plugs that need to be unplugged, just tuck them away where they won't cause any problems. Put your block off plate on where the ACV was. There is a hose that runs from your ACV to a charcoal canister, if you fell really ambitious you can remove them too. The charcoal canister is kind of a bitch to get out, it's under your pass. side head light. And like Scott 89t2 said get the dual belt alternator pulley(like $44 from mazdatrix). Good luck! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

no the "charcoal canister" is that black round thing towards the firewall with the 2 lines on top.

what you're thinking about is the airpump/ACV muffler thingy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png don't know what it's called. but ya you can rip it out. kinda a pain.
