Sounds like your best bet is to have a local board member give you a hand.

for you first question, it sounds like your flooding your engine.

pop the hood and take out the egi fuse (should be the first one)

the crank the car for 30seconds or so, and put the fuse back and...

then your car should start.

Did you just get the car, or have you had it a while? Was it running okay before, or has it been sitting?

i just got the car the seller told me its been sitting out for a year and i got rid of the old gas by letting it run til it died and filled it with new gas...for a while if i just gas'd it it would run but now dunno....

Ouch!

The idea behind getting the old gas out of the tank is so the fuel system and engine don't have to see the stuff. My '88 has a convenient drain plug on the bottom of the fuel tank. I suspect the '87 has it also. Draining the tank would have been a better way to get out the old gas and any condensation or whatever else happened to be in there.

At this point, maybe try a fuel filter change? Might also be a good time to pull the injectors and have them cleaned and flow tested.

oh yeah lol i tried to drain it but a screw was striped >_< so it should be right under the tank right?? i was thinking of getting a new one and i need to see if my cars getting enough fuel i dunno where to get a fuel tester....whats the avg psi for fuel?? thank you for all your help

rotary wrench turner 04-03-2006 10:12 PM

fuel pressure? for a fuel injected engine (and this is an estimate) should be somewhere near 11psi+/- 1 or 2 psi (correct me if I'm wrong) a fuel pressure gauge should be availiable at any auto parts store near ya (pep boys, auto zone etc) and it shouldnt cost much at all. when you do buy one it should have a fitting on the end similar to a tire pressure gauge but larger (make sure its the female end) it should plug into a fitting on your fuel line that looks similar to the end of your valve stems on your tires (but larger) dont confuse with the similar fitting on the A/C system though. when you do check it make sure your battery is charged and your key is in the "run" position. (to make sure the fuel pump is on and doing its thing) hope this helps bud. good luck.

Change the fuel filter, air filter, plugs and wires. After these items are all new - then post your findings.
