I recently purchased my fathers 1987 Madza RX7 N/A. The engine was fully rebuilt and got a new alternator, radiator, cluth and other main stuff like that. I was wonder what are the first things I should do to the car. Not mods like exhaust that will be in the future.....RATHER I am wondering if I should do things like:

Change Fuel filters, Oil filter, Thermostat

Oil change to synthetic oil

Change coolant hoses and vacuum lines (silicone)

Change oil line

Change brake lines (steel-braided)

Check Spark Plugs and Wires

Flush coolants and fluids and replace with new ones

Check battery wires

Any other suggestions along with info on those things would be greatly appreciated.

Synthetic fluids are good ideas for things like your tranny and diff (some people reccomend redline fluids, but I stick with mobil 1) but as for engine oil its up to you. The mazda manual says not to use synthetic engine oil because it doesn't combust all the way in your chambers, so the residue just gunks up your engine. But some people claim that was because the synth oils were early designs, and that the synth oils of today will fully combust. As for me I like to err on the side of caution and I just use plain, 20-50 engine oil in my 13B. Whatever you use is up to you, I just reccomend the fossil oil.

the vacuum lines on na's dont have problems, so its better to leave em alone.

na's are also easy on the oil, so it makes the sythetic start to look very expensive

Also on a side not if I have an 1987 13B N/A: if I put on custom steel piping with a K&N cone intake, racing beat headers, no cat-converter and racing beat exhaust. What kind of Horsepower could I expect from my car?????

Dramon_Killer 05-31-2003 01:50 AM

that be around a 20-30 gain wouldnt you guys say? Anyways thats just a guess. I really have no clue.

And on the side my cats are dead and so is the rest of my exhaust so i'm just gonna run a downpipe. How important are the presilencers?

IMO, I wouldn't run synthetic in the engine unless you disable the metering oil pump and run premixed gas. As for the HP gains, Racing Beat says roughly an 18 HP increase with just the cat replacement pipe and presilencer. 20-30 sounds about right but who knows.. the condition and tuning of the engine have a lot to do with it too.

I think the presilencers are important to avoid the loud chainsaw sound unless you like that.

It is removing the power steering (ps) and air conditioning (ac).

Removing them eliminates any parasitic hp loss from having to turn the pulley. And it cleans up the engine bay alot.
