Ok. So my FC blew an apex seal about 2 years ago and I sold it. I've regretted it ever since. Now I have the chance to buy a 'vert (would prefer a hard top, but oh well) for $300 because it has a blown apex seal. Now I did intake porting on my old RX-7 but I never went much farther than that. I'm very mechanically inclined, but I'm not quite sure where to start. Basically, what I'm wondering is if it's worth it to buy and rebuild or not, and if so, which FAQs or videos would help me the most once I got down to the engine? Thanks.

the tools:

you'll need a 54mm socket for the flywheel, a torque wrench that goes to about 280ft-lbs for that socket (or a breakerbar, and a jackhandle for leverage) a dial test indicator with a magnetic base for checking your rear iron, and some other stuff I cant think of right now.

if you do decide to rebuild it, and you're driving your ol lady's car while you have yours apart... dont get in a fight with her... its a bitch hauling all those pieces (and keeping them organized) to your buddy's apartment in a non running RX-7. not to mention, the manager of your buddy's apartment complex isnt going to want you to work on your car in her parking lot either... take it from me: I know...

if its $300...find a junkyard motor and make 2 engines 1.

I would get it if its in good shape and buy a new motor.

Well, I'm trying to find now a motor that would make the car worth it. As it turns out though, it may not be an apex seal. I got that from a third party before I talked to the owner. Apparently it has compression, but it smokes like hell. I'm assuming i'd still need the rebuild, but I doubt i'd need the rotor or housing. My main problem now is that I live in an apartment, and I was going to do the work in my brother's garage, but he just sold his house. So, I'd prefer to just have the work done, and nobody in Oklahoma seems to do rebuilds. Oh well.

you could always just buy a reman engine? and ask a shop to swap it...that would be faster and more convenient for you. just costly. meh...
