well, the story starts with a sweet ass 87 GXL- red, auto https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png 88K original miles, new tires, motor, and battery, perfect interior- exterior with some sun damage but fixed with some compounding and waxing, been sittin for last 3 years or so. got in the car after checkin all the fluids n stuff, started up fine like a champ, warmed up, exchanged a title and 500 bucks and we were on our way- drove it home! anyways- to the point. the car ran extremely well in my opinion to be sitting for such a while. idled well, cold A/C, all electrical items worked also- big plus considering my T2 has like nothing that works. so- damn the point, the car runs fine except when you goose it good, it gets to about 3500 or so and falls on its face. if you gradually get into it, it will go plenty past 3500 until the buzzer goes off. wondering if anyone had ever experienced problems such as this with an NA. let me know what you guys would check. im thinkin the basics- plugs n **** but it sounds to me like it could be somethin like the actuators for the 6 port, possibly a fuel system **** up, i dunno. gimme some pointers.

Had this on my buddies 88, had me stumped for a few days. Look behind the thermostat housing at the 2 plugs, make sure they have a good connection, ours was not plugged in right, keeping the ecu in a limp home mode. It was the exact symptoms you describe, drive down the road and she would run great to 3500-3800 rpm them hit a flat spot, if you backed out of the throttle a little the car would spin up slowly, but if you tried to floor it again while slowly climbing, it would fall on its face again.
Hope this helps Sean |
it could also be the secondary injectors arent working.
im thinking something along the lines that the secondaries need to be cleaned. the car will lunge foward and then back off when its on the floor past 3500. anyone know when the secondaries are activated? or are they all the time? the car will pull through to the buzzer if the gas is pressed easy and just accelerate slowly but otherwise you floor it and it stumbles and lunges. im thinking we should prolly throw some injector cleaner in the next tank of gas, anyone agree, disagree?

sounds like the 3800 rpm hesitation...I think there's a faq for this. Mine was doing this but it was just one of the harness clips came undone. Check that too. Several year old gas isnt super for your engine either. Also, check the fuel filter and the the pump. Make sure its getting 12v.
the secondaries come on at 3500-3800, on a light load the primaries will supply enough fuel, but if you give it more air, it will go lean and buck/stumble etc
It sounds a lot like its your secondaries. Mine activate at 3800.
what is the 3800 hesitation? where can i find out info about this? i heard its in FAQ's but where?
also- a friend of mine who used to work at a mazda dealership suggested feeding about a cup of auto trans fluid through a vaccuum line. would you all suggest this to clean some of the carbon out?

does it stumble/hestitate at 3500 and continue to rev? or does it stop running at 3500 unless you back off the gas? |
stumbles n **** at 35-38- then stubbles the rest of the way up. it feels like its bein stomped on and off all the way til like 7K.

how would you suggest fixing this?
Get them cleaned, make sure there plugged in.
Your secondary injectors are moer likely to get clogged because theyre not always being used and if you drive your car lightly theyre almost never activating. |
where are the damn things?! actually, which injectors are which. i know there's the ones right at the UIM. which are these and where are the others?
put injectors in it out of my parts GXL tonite- holy ****. i cant wait to drive the T2. this **** is fast enough, lol. feels like turbo lag cause its an automatic.
ur gxl injectors aren't as big as your t2 ones.
lol, i can see how my last post could cause some confusion- lol, we got the injectors from my parts GXl into the red GXL tonite. its pretty damn quick. i cant wait to drive my T2 if the GXL is this quick. - that should clear some things up. the reason the car was stumbleing was one of the secondaries had a nasty crack. changed in the ones outta the other car and now she's a beast agaiN!
