Hey, are there any differences between the S4 na block and S4 turbo block. Can you just switch out the manifolds and electronics. The car I am buying has an Na engine in it now but the manifold for the turbo is still on there just blocked off and the electronics are still in there. I think he swapped in an 88 na engine and just put the old turbo manifolds on, also some of the electronics are still around just not connected.

Turbos are 4 port, na's are 6 port.

fc3sboy1 05-17-2005 06:32 PM

am i missing something here?

fc3sboy1 05-17-2005 06:34 PM

maybe someone dropped in an old 4 port 13b na motor ?

U of Dayton-FC3S 05-17-2005 08:16 PM

sorry didnt fully explain I have yet to confirm the 6th ports but the engine is from a 88 gxl I think so I assume it has 6 ports. I guess its kinda hard to explain maybe ill take some picks once i get the car in. In the case that it does have 6 ports that pretty much solves my questions, totally forgot about that https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif .

In order for the stock turbo manifold to clear the N/A intake manifold, you will either need to get a set of Tii manifolds, and port match the LIM to the N/A LIM gasket.

OR

Put a spacer on the stock turbo manifold.

OR

Just buy an FD manifold, drill out the bolt holes a bit. (aftermarket turbo/wastegate reqd)

stupid computer

So the Fd manifold would be easier to fit on, other than using a spacer on the T2 manifold

toplessFC3Sman 05-19-2005 12:48 AM

Wait, the guy u got it from swapped a n/a engine into a TII, and the manifolds and everything just bolted on? how the hell does that work, and where are the 5th and 6th ports exhausting to?

the aux ports are only on the intake...

so where do they take in air?

You completely mis-understood what I posted.

You have to grind the turbo lower intake manifold to match the N/A ports/lower intake manifold gasket.

Also you can make the two ports on the side plates into one, since the hole is going to be one hole on the LIM.

U of Dayton-FC3S: To use the FD upper intake manifold you have to use a turbo Series 5 (89-91 model) lower intake manifold, grind that to match the N/A, then port match the FD intake manifold to the S5 upper intake gasket, get the FD oil filler neck, and other ****. I'm sure there's a thread on here somewhere.

-yea, thats what i meant.. damn lack of sleep...

What are the benefits of using the FD intake? better flow? bigger TB?

BoneT2&Harmony 05-20-2005 06:12 AM

Both FD/FC UIM flow about the same. You mostly benefit from the longer intake runners. And yea the TB is a little bigger.

But the benefits don't outweigh the hassle of it, unless you're good with a dremel, or buy the $400 adapter piece.
