heys guys

got a rx7s4 13b NA, it doesnt like to start that well unless there is oil in the rotor, but it will start.

i noticed that it will l run ok for a few minutes with no noise, but when it seems to get warm the idol RPM pick up to 2000 rpm and oil pressure drops.

when stabbing accelerator a bad scraping/ barking noise comes from the manifold. this sound will only sound briefly when initally stabbing the accelerator and will stop as the engine winds up.

this engine has only done 166 000 km's.

Anyone herd of anything like this before?

Thanks for ya help

Ryan.

im assuming yuo've checked for oil leaks and such... does the car lose any oil (not thru an external leak)? Does the sound seem to come from the manifold itself, or thru the manifold from the engine? Its probably a good idea to check whether the air pump and OMP are operating.

it sounds like it could be coming from the engine through the manifold not to sure. how do i cheack the air pump and what is an OMP??? Thanx for the tips

the OMP is the oil metering pump, its what ensures that your engine is being lubricated properly.

to check the air pump, the easiest way i can think of/describe would be to get the car up on jack stands or ramps, disconnect the hose running to the cat, start the car and see if air blows out of the hose. dont forget to re-connect the hose after you verify that theres air coming out, or you could destroy your cat.

if it only seems to happen when the car gets warm, you may want to check the thermowax to make sure its working right. I dont know why it would cause these symptoms, but it is temperature sensitive, not very difficult to get to, and they do fail. the procedure to test it is in the haynes manual
