Never done a rotary before, and the large miles are a red flag.

Its got a lot of miles, and the owner said in an email that the carpeting in the back has been pulled (probably for weight). Any kind of stereo has also been pulled, and no word on clutch status. Supposedly runs well, and seats in good shape.

It has the dent on the rear fender, but nothing major otherwise. Would that affect the fueling? Crappy pic, but if anyone knows about that kind of thing, it would be much appreciated.

Basically, is this worth the effort to check out? I'm kind of new to the rotary gig, but i've been doing my research and looked at the buyers guide on this site. Any additional advice on what to look for on a high mileage second gen?

My thanks.

hey that dont look to bad from that pic.. id buy it.. but then again.. it does have a lot of miles.. if your lookin for somethin to just play with.. you should get it.. if your looking for reliability... check it out and drive it before you make that decision.. its all up to you.. the non turbo rx-7s do run forever if properly maintained.. you just gotta look for pulsation dampener.... thas why most of them are in the junkyard here.. the engine bay caught on fire.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

It depends on what you are trying to do. The car needs some body work of course which could be expensive. That rear quarter is not just dented but the skin looks wrinkled. It could have misaligned the fueling pipe also. The skin underneath the passenger door also looks kind of funny in the picture. May be just the pic though. The car may run good now but with that many miles on it and you not knowing how those miles were driven, the car will probably need a rebuild soon.

I would probably check this one out and drive it first and give it the once over before purchase but all that said it could be a great project.

If you look at it, tell him to let it sit overnight... start it up COLD. Make sure no smoke or leaks (especially white smoke).

Alright, I got new info. Apparently the engine was replaced just a couple years ago, and hasn't been driven much since. It belonged to the boyfriend of the lady who is selling it, the guy moved to Japan, leaving the car for her to sell. She doesn't know much about cars I think, and said she just read the miles off the odometer. I believe this engine has far less than this many miles on it.

It hasn't been driven in a week or so, which would make it a very cold start, yes?

Thanks for the input, I want to avoid getting something a bit... anticlimactic. I'll let you know how it goes after getting a look at it this weekend.

I noticed you mentioned an RX7 buyers guide on this site. I've done a search for it and looked through the forums and I can't find it. I'm looking to buy a 1991. Could someone point me in the direction of the buyers guide so I know what to look for.

Right here in the 2 Gen F.A.Qs.

Thanks. I went to look at the car a few minutes ago and it didn't start because it had a dead battery. I'm guessing it might be a messed up alternator. Is this hard to fix, or could it be something else? The guy said he'd charge the battery tonight so I can test drive it tommorow.

You'll be surprised as to how easy it is to work on these cars. Theres no distributer, timing chain, cams...all that useless timing bull ****. So as for your alt/battery situation, **** it; fix 'em both. And do yourself a favor and add grounds to the motor...

let us know how it goes. but a gtu for 1200 is pretty good no matter what
