I am pretty new to rotary engines. I have done a lot of research on them as to see how they work, and why they have problems so to speak. But most of the problems seem to be urban legends from knuckle head tuners who don't know how to tune and maintain a high performance engine like a rotary.

I think that if you wanna go boost, then a piston engine is the best way to go for reliability, like a 2jzgte or Sr20det. As far as n/a no other engine even touches the level of hp/lt like a rotary which is why they are banned in many racing classes.

I am sorry but the 787B is the most impressive car I have ever seen. The engine is about the size of a microwave, and it makes 700 horsepower and 448 ft-lbs of torque all from 2.6 liters of displacement! Can't beat that, that is the niche of the rotary IMO, N/A. This is the replacement for displacement. I think mazda made a sma

I own a 88 GXL and am thinking about doing some serious work on this car, as far as n/a. What kind of power is possible from the 13b, I am hoping for 200whp, which would really make this car book, considering it's curb weight. I am also curious, what accounts for the extra 20hp on the later gen 2 n/a models, it is higher compression rotors?

I want to know, is it possible at all? Thanks for your help guys.

the 89's get more power from a couple different ways.

1. they rev it higher

2. higher compression, lower weight rotors (and flywheel)

3. better ecu/intake manifold

You could get well over 200 from an 89 N/A i believe. I think i have seen a dyno where just replacing the exhaust with some RB true duals put it up there around 200 or so.

does anyone have any suggestions on what mods would be necessary for 200whp? Like what compression type of porting etc...

I own an 89' GTU. I would also recommend (racing beat's True dual exhaust system W/ 6port road race headers.) this ranges at about $1150-$1250.

You could also have a mild bridge-port done. I did this and loved it. Also put an apexi intake on, get rid of the stock fan. Put an electric fan in, go big too, it helps keep the engine a lot cooler. I had custom brackets made @ my machine shop, and dropped a Dodge Viper fan in. - Then u might want to consider a high out-put alternator, But to save in funds, U can have it re-built for about $130. If ur looking to cut weight, try to locate an aluminum hood, the fan will help, and u can do without the A/C.
