The passenger side is flooding with water from about 2 inches from the front of the seat to where the holders are in the door( which are also filled with water ). Im going to take the leather seat out when i can so it doesnt get messed up. Only problem is i cant find where its leaking from. The only thing i havent tried is spraying it down with water and getting in and watching. I know i'll probably end up having to do that but i really dont want to put any more water in their than there already is. Anyone have any idea on what seals fucked up or if its the top it self ? Once i get the top fixed ill have to try and get some new carpet put in since whats in there now is ruined even the panel on the door.

im a bit lost on where your carpet is wet, where are the holders in the door?

Seppuku 12-17-2002 05:22 PM

the little pocket things under the handle.

Rob x-7 12-17-2002 05:29 PM

Maybe your window wasnt up all the way and properly seated against the moulding?

I wouldnt get too upset if its leaking, they leaked brand new.

Seppuku 12-17-2002 05:31 PM

Yeah but it wasnt leaking before i checked it before i bought the car. It just started leaking since the ast heavy rain

Rob x-7 12-17-2002 05:37 PM

when it rains really hard or rains for days at a time, a little water in the car will be a normal thing. It probably always leaked but the previous owner might have kept it in the garage or covered and only took it out on nice days. Check the mounting bolts for the seat and see if they are rusting, if they are rusting dont take the seat out because you may run into problems bolting it back in.

check and make sure all the drains work, there are 2 in the door bottom and in the bottom of the rocker panel. it possible that the rockers fill up and overflow

I always said he should donate his car to the Mazda museam if it doesnt leak

j9fd3s 12-17-2002 08:51 PM

Ok i got my seat out now and im getting ready to check all the drains. And rob the window was up, and sealed as far as i know. Hopefully ill figure out the problem today.

j9fd3s 12-18-2002 12:01 PM

on the miata the rocker panels drain from the jacking point, they have a gap in the pressing there, it likes to get clogged

mine leaked for the first time since i've had it (6 mos) the other day too.. I'm pretty sure it's normal.. atleast you didn't pay $80,000 for your vert and still needed a raincoat while you drove it.

Seppuku 12-18-2002 12:57 PM

Ok i found the leaks. The water is coming in from the bottom of the door. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/wtf.gif

maybe the seal where the window meets the door is bad, water comes in the door through there, and out the bottom of the door into your car....I think mine does that

j9fd3s 12-18-2002 01:18 PM

yes and you should make sure the door drains are clear, it might have a leaf in it the redirectrs the water inside the car

I checked the door drains they are working so its not them. Im guessing now that the seal is busted or something in there. I started removing the door panels and everything. Only problem i have right now is the plug for the power window is stuck together and i cant figure out how to get the pull/armrest off. Can anyone tell me how to disasemble the door? i got all the screws out and the courtesy light cover off the door also i removed the mirror, poped the pins( i guess thats what the are) off on the back side of the panel, anything else i havent done?

Rob x-7 12-18-2002 05:54 PM

There are screws under the armrest, a few around the perimeter of the door panel, one behind the cover for the inside door handle. Then just pry it away then up, the window switch comes off with the panel and you can access the plug.

You can keep the courtesy light in the panel when you take it off

Rob x-7 12-18-2002 06:17 PM

The screws under the armrest are way in there, 4 of them if I remember correctly.

So again, leave the courtesy light intact, and dont forget there is a screw behind the cover for the inside handle which you can access when you take that one little screw off the cover.

i also had the same problem and the door seal was bad....mazda has a ******* strange setup with the seals..if you look at the door seal you will see where its is flattened out. Also the seals are U shaped and act like a drain spray some armor-all all over them and eventually the seals will swell up and the leaking will stop, this will take some time though armor-all it 3-4 times a day ......its a little pricey, but, i replaced the whole door seal and the leaking stopped..for the most part
