I slapped it all together today.. skipped some things, but was deteremined to get her running. Guys, it started up on first try once I turned on the fuel pump.

I have pics too, will make those available tomorrow when I'm at work.

For those of you who arent up to date on my buildup, What you are hearing and watching in the movie is the following:

S5 Turbo intermediate and rotor housings, S5 NA (6 port) end housings, everything street ported by mazdatrix. All new.

S5 NA rotors, new

All new gaskets and rotor kit, FD corner seal springs, hardened stationary gears...

The rats nest is removed, TB modified and ported, all intake manifolds port matched (still kinda unfinished, will finish it when it warms up outside)

Thats the SR motorsports aluminum radiator, flex-a-lite electric fan, stock ECU, only FPR and MAP have vacuum going to them, everything else capped except the LIM to dynamic chamber link.

The exhaust is full RB, streetable headers (collected to single outlet) presilencer, Y pipe, and mufflers.

thats the stupid HKS super mega uber ultra power flow junk air filter.

I didnt even adjust the timing for ****, forgot the timing light in my wives car. Didnt get to calibrate the TPS or the idle a/f mixture screw, or mess with the initial set coupler etc. So the idle is kinda crappy, but damnit, it sounds ******* SEXY. Oh, BTW, the water temp sensor on the block isnt even connected here, nor is the oil temp sensor in the pan, the wire on the oil temp sensor broke during engine installation... gotta fix it, and the S5 water temp sensor has a diff conector than my S4 harness does at the moment, will fix it later. I think it's running a bit rich currently...

and guess what's waiting in a box about 5 feet from the car? give up? Haltech E6K waiting to go in, I might do some breakin on the stock ecu first, but yep, that AFM is gonna be gone soon. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

:yum:

I'm very giddy right now. Like schol girl.

The video data format is Motion JPEG OpenDML, it plays fine with QT Player 6.1 on Mac OS X

Sorry about the format, it's straight off my canon powershot s300, if anyone can provide mpeg versions you're welcome to convert them, but I think most players support it.

vosko 02-11-2003 11:14 AM

VERY NICE! i didn't know you had an E6K :bigthumg:

i'll download the vids when i get home. see now all the work is worth it when you see it run :bigok:

pengaru 02-11-2003 11:15 AM

I just showed the vids to some coworkers on a new imac, and it didnt sound right at all, those harmon kardon clear speaker thingies didnt reproduce the bass very well like my stereo w/sub at home, if you guys watch them and have some decent speakers with subs, turn up the volume, it's tits! :yum:

I can't even understand anything I say in the videos, I think I was so excited I was rambling like a mad man.

ROTARYROCKET7 02-11-2003 11:35 AM

just the engine build alone I think was ~5k... I don't even know, I never got a total invoice for everything from mazdatrix as alot of the parts were ordered seperately via email with them, kindof in passing while discussing technical details of what to use for what I wanted.

I do however know the credit card balance after I stopped ordering stuff, > 5k, but there was more than just the engine parts on that card.. I'm guessing it's around 5k. You can go on mazdatrix and add up the prices on the web site if you're curious... Heres a semi-complete parts list (copied from my web site)

* Aluminum underdrive crank pulley, aluminum double sheave alternator pulley.

* Competition motor mounts

* New series 5 turbo rotor housings, street ported

* New series 5 turbo intermediate housing, street ported

* New series 5 NA end housings, street ported

* New hardened front stationary gear

* New hardened rear stationary gear, 3 window bearing

* New series 5 NA rotors

* New rotor kit, stock 3 piece apex seals

* New gasket set

* FD corner seal springs

* New oil pump drive chain

* High pressure oil pressure regulator

* Weber jet eccentric shaft oil jet mod

* 18 new series 5 (ribbed) tension bolts (thats like $300 in bolts!)

* New series 4 water pump

* New competition torrington bearings, thrust plate, thrust washer, bearing plate

I also needed the air bleed things for the primary fuel injectors, I think those were > $100 ! some of this stuff is ridiculously priced.

ROTARYROCKET7 02-11-2003 11:53 AM

wow. if i do that ill spend twice what i payed for my car lol. But hey for the rotary its werth it man. SOunds good. enjoy. I know u will

I'm just curious what I can get out of an NA, if I max it out and I'm still not happy with the performance it will likely turn into a high compression turbo motor.

j9fd3s 02-11-2003 12:12 PM

it sounds really good, and it revs fast too :bigthumg:

yeah i'm surprised how well it's revving in the low end right now, especially with the aux port setup I have going right now, which is aux port actuators, shafts, bushings, sleeves, all removed.... I expected low end to be more piggish, I think it wil get even better as I get everything tuned... I'm having trouble doing anything at work today my mind is definately elsewhere. Just wait til I have videos of it revving to 9k, :squirt:

j9fd3s 02-11-2003 12:28 PM

sweet, i wanna see it

vosko 02-11-2003 12:29 PM

if you make it a high compression turbo engine. how do you make the intake manifold work. need a custom one ?

just need a custom elbow for the throttle body and custom exhaust manifold ? the E6K has a 3bar map sensor

vosko 02-11-2003 12:41 PM

ooooh i get it now.... all custom https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

i think you need a larger radiator. 13BAce had that radiator in his vert. i think it cooled too much LOL

FCmaniac 02-11-2003 12:43 PM

congrats man!! ****** SWEET!!! Sounds like all the hard work and attention to detail paid off....

man I'm jealous! :bigok:

wav's for those of you who are having trouble with the movies, most players i've tested on today play it though, media player, osx (quicktime) and mplayer in linux played it... i dunno dude https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

the sound is where it's at though

Rob x-7 02-11-2003 05:37 PM

it sure sounds good, love the RB mufflers, your link is only

hrm, well my pengaru.com is on my sdsl which is not too great for movies it will get brought to it's knees easily... my friend seva put it on a server on a fatter pipe so I figured that would work better for you guys.

Theres another set of the movies here:

http://pengaru.com/~swivel/cars/rx-7/movies/new_motor/

maybe that will work for you https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I'll see about converting avi's to mpeg's.

btw, if theyre not all there yet I'm still uploading.

http://pengaru.com/~swivel/cars/rx-7/movie...ies/new_motor2/

alot more movies, it's running much better now.

The movies include gauge cluster idling/revving, some of the interior vids are really dark but can still see tach needle. Other movies are of engine bay idling/revving, took one of the black magic electric fan running with engine idling, you can really hear how much air this thing pulls in the movie. I also took some of the AFM internals with the engine idling and revving, one even has the TPS calibration LED's in view, so it's kindof neat to watch. There's also one hot start movie but the camera cut it short before it dropped down to the ~800rpm idle.

I also took one of the exhaust so you can hear what it's like from behind, it's a bit smokey because theres too much oil in the gas (kindof intentional, trying to play it safe as there was an unknown amount in the tank from before) and if you see any smoke from the radiator area in the movies, it's just coolant finally evaporating, it's ******* cold up here so nothing we spilled during installation has evaporated.

enjoy the movies, try not to be too mean to my dsl https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

BTW, the idle kinda cycles around 100rpm but it's such a high frequency cycle I think it's from the porting, if anyone here can confirm that .... I'd appreciate it, it might just be the stock ECU doing something silly with the BACV. It's only a matter of time before the E6K goes in.

rx7machine 02-17-2003 01:25 PM

Great news man.. I'll have to download the movies later though..
