I am trying to transplant a 13B engine from a 1st generation rx7 into my 2nd generation rx7. Everything works except the motor mounts. Has anyone run into this problem and if so what is the solution?

from a gsl-se right?

The motor is out of a 1980 rx7 and I'm trying to put it into a 1986 GL. I'm wondering if I can drill holes in the motor for the 86 mounts and change the oil pan to accomdate the new mounts. My concern is drilling holes in the motor and doing some damage to water jackets etc.

Any ideas?

the only way to do it is to extent the stock front mounting plate back, but i dunno if that plate will clear the steering rack.

I think I have a solution: I will try to run a plate back from the front mounting bracket back and see where it will bolt up as suggested. I will also try to install the right side mount to limit the twisting of the motor. I'll let you know how it works.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

isn't that a 12A engine?

colynda 11-30-2002 08:18 AM

No it is not the 12A stock motor, it is a sweet 13b N/A motor that has been rebuilt with some modifications to get as much Hp as possible without a turbo. It is a simple motor, no efi or any other electronics to worry about, this baby is all mechanical.

can't wait to see what a difference there will be from the stock 13b.

I was under the impression that only the Gsl-se had a 13b in it, all other 1st gens had 12As.

If that motor is the original motor for that 1980 rx-7 its a 12a.. no 13b was put into production till 84 i believe(correct me if i am wrong but isnt that the 1st year for the GSL-se)... so why the hell would you put a 12a in a 2nd gen? what do you mean the motor was built for max horse power?? them 12a 3mm apex seals vibrate at 6200rpm bad.. and cannot take no more then 8400rpm before they come off seat.. so unless you did a BP and have 2mm seals and say different rotor and E-shaft.. stock one can only take i believe 2800rpm..(2800x3=8400) so you tell.. i am wrong??

I think he dropped a 13b into his first gen and now wants to put it in his second gen.
