so i got my banzaitoyota double alt pully on and removed and blocked off my airpump.
after taking forever to track down two of the same new alt belts, it runs again. but now over 3grand i get a horrible squeeling noise from the engine bay. And at times 2k-3k sounds like a superchargers belt whine. I've checked all the belts and none of them shouldnt be too tight. Next up, if my car doesn start on the first crank it floods. And my idle is down 100 or so rpms from before the airpump removal. Is this natural or did i not seal off the block off plate well enough making a vacuum leak? And would a vacuum leak cause the easier flooding? |
you sure the belts arent too loose? new ones will stretch as they break in
yes once you remove the acv/air pump the ecu no longer sees the 02 sensor thrown off, and the idle gets rich and lower. on an s4 you can partially help it with the idle mixutre screw, its on the right shock tower behind the air cleaner. you might wanna spray a little brake cleaner around the acv block off, if the idle changes, you have a leak. |

Yeah i've been keeping an eye on the belts but i should look again. I think it may be something with the tensioner pullys for the ac and ps making noise. Any idea if those should be lubed with anything? And i figured that might be part of it since i had no idea what those two plugs were but nowhere mentioned them. I'll get some brake cleaner and check it out. |
the a/c and p/s bearings are sealed and shouldnt need any lube.
the 2 plugs have nothing to do with the o2 sensor, the air pump air goes into the exhaust manifold and throws off the o2 sensor reading, and without it reads "wrong" and the ecu tries to adjust |

the nut shouldn't be that loose. the noise is probably them working loose. goodtimes! have fun with your fc!

The tensioner nuts should be tightened after the belts are tensioned.
About 30 ft-lbs. |
new bearings for the tensioners are cheap, if they turn out to be making noise dont waste money on used ones, get new ones.
you did loosen the bolt on the pulley and tighten it again right? |
When you first install a double belt, the bottom pulleys are not worn equally, so you will have a break in period.
Start by running the belts a little tighter than normal. If they still want to squeal, swap them front to rear. You may have to keep re-tensioning the belts during the break in. Mine took about 100 miles to break in. |
the alt belts are set a little on the tight side. One of them was ran for a day until i could find the second belt.
and i had one of the tensioners apart becuase i snapped an adjuster bolt and it was easier to take the whole thing out to get the part out. i tightened both tensioners but i still kinda suspect that theyre making noise but i could be wrong |
