Ok, well, its been running well for a couple months now, and is being used as my daily driver over the summer. Within the past two weeks or so, whenever I start it up, especially when its still warm, or if its a hot day, I need to floor it to get the car to start, and then varying amounts of white smoke shoot out the back. Starting cold is fine, it fires right up with minimal smoke, but when its warm it gives me a problem. I havent had to pull the plugs and de-flood it to get it to start yet. I was thinking that this was the injectors leaking, but the lack of cold start smoke doesnt really make sense then. Ive been putting fuel injector cleaner into the tank the past few times Ive filled up, and cant really see a difference (if anything, its a little worse) Is there a good place around Morris County, northern NJ that does fuel injector cleaning and inspection?



The car also leaks oil... pretty quickly. I dont have the capability to really lift the car up (jack stands are about as high as i can get it), or take the engine out, but are there any common places that I can check without removing too much?

Oil leak could just be that the drain plug is not on tight enough, or could be an oil cooler problem. That is all I know of. Or that the oil pan gasket is shot to hell also. Is the oil just dripping or does it spout out. How often do you have to fill it up. How many miles do you go until you have to fill it up?



You can send out your injectors to be cleaned at RC Engineering. I think they are called that. Somebody else can clarify that for you though.



P.S. Oil cooler problem could be that one of your oil cooler lines are not clamped/tightened down all the way. What year is it also? Any mods to it?

its an 88 N/A, only mods are a racing beat cat back and brakes (and a new convertible top, but i dont think those would cause it) where do the oil cooler lines come out of? and should the drain plug have some sort of washer or gasket on it?(cause it doesnt) the pan itself looks fine, i was down under the car checking it out like two days ago, and didnt even see any scrapes

There should be a crush washer on the drain plug. The oil cooler lines run from the rear plate and front cover to the oil cooler down the spark plug side of the engine.

If it is the oil cooler lines, have fun man. Real pain in the butt to do. You have to take out the battery, battery tray, fan shroud to get to them. I have seen oil pan gaskets with the drain plug gasket attached to the gasket around the actual oil pan gasket. Hard to explain....



The oil cooler should be right in front of the radiator if I remember correctly and it is very small. You can see it from under the car. Should be silver. Or aluminium. But I highly doubt it is an oil cooler problem really. If that were the problem oil would be all over the engine bay and on the front bumper where the coolant overflow tank is located.

I see a sway bar!!!! How did you get the cool fittings or where did you get them done? Does some store on the net sell them like that. I also have the stainless steel lines, and it would be nice to have those types of fittings on them. When I removed one oil cooler line I got cut up by all the steel wiring coming out of the line.

Those hoses are made by racing beat and retail for about 240 dollars for both lines ready to install, I can and have made other lines for the car but if you don't know what you are doing ("timing" the fittings so the hose radius is right etc.) it can end up a bigger mess than you started with.

theres some sort of plastic shroud covering much of that, that runs from the front bumper back to the subframe right before the oil pan, so i cant really see that too well. The thing with miles... the body has 139,xxx on it, but im not sure about the engine. I think it was replaced, or at least rebuilt, sometime before i got the car (i got it at 138,xxx with no history at all), because of some yellow markings on the alternator, and just the cleanliness of the engine and engine bay, especially in contrast to other parts of the car. I have no idea what the milage is on the engine is. It has no other problems besides these (and besides desperately needing a paint job), and it runs very smoothly and powerfully, and idles well. the rubber all seems to be in very good condition.

So racing beat still offers those oil cooler lines with the fittings? They look really nice, and I hope to be fitting a red top in the pass bin and you will be able to see the oil cooler lines now. and do all the sway bar stuff, coilovers(i wish!), or just change out the rear struts for the other set of KYB AGX's I have still not bought from the np store.



I just wanna drive my RX-7 again. I miss it badly.
