I'm in the process of obtaining a used RB header and precat. Here's my question: how different is the rb y-pipe and the stock y-pipe? on the rb website, it says theirs is slightly larger in diameter, but it doesn't specify. they also said their y-pipe is the same as the tII, so how different are they? and would it be worth it to try and find a used tII y-pipe? I've read that it's usually best to have an all-rb system for sound and performance. how waranted are these claims?

thats a couple of good questions. ypipe: i know when you buy a new one from mazda you always get a turbo one, the rb one is supposed to be bigger, but it still bolts on so it cant be hugely bigger. so i dont think your y pipe is gonna be all that different from a factory one.

go single ehaust. looks much better.

Personally I don't like the single on the FC. Just looks misbalanced, especially since there's an extra hump with no muffler in it. Maybe that's just me, but I think double looks much better.

i dont dislike the single, but the fc is the only rx7 to have duals and i felt (this exhaust anyways) to keep the uniquely fc thing

I feel the same way, with the gaping hole...plus it's easier to keep it dual, no extra work to do...what's the recommended muffler with this setup?

Baldy 01-10-2003 03:23 PM

additionally, I'm under the impression that a racing beat header, with a presilencer welded on, will replace the cats...is this just for the precats, or all? or am I way off base?

j9fd3s 01-10-2003 03:37 PM

the rb header and presilencer replace everything to the y pipe

Racing Beat mufflers, the sound of the racing beat header with stock exaust is similar to a nasty sounding dirt bike.

Baldy 01-14-2003 12:07 PM

is there a cheaper option that would sound just as good as rb, or at least not horrible as stock? I don't like the idea of spending more on mufflers alone than on anything else

j9fd3s 01-14-2003 01:03 PM

well if it makes you feel any better the racing beat mufflers are half the price of stock ones

Baldy 01-14-2003 01:21 PM

oh, my

I put a want ad in the proper section, hopefully something will come up...I'm all about the discounts...plus, if it's cheaper, I can convince my wife that it's something I need, not something I want

Baldy 01-14-2003 01:22 PM

would it sound like ass if I got an off-the-shelf one from discount auto parts or pep boys? i'm more interested in power than good looks or nice tone

Turbo II 01-14-2003 01:28 PM

exhaust leak worked for me

j9fd3s 01-14-2003 01:42 PM

well it will sound like ass but thats what a rotary sounds like, so its cool

good to know

Apex13B 01-14-2003 09:13 PM

the RB mufflers are full stainless..(i think) so they will be the last mufflers you will buy...if not get stainless mufflers (tell your wife that they give the car better gas milage so you are saving money in the long run) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

ChainSawOnSteroids 01-16-2003 08:00 PM

how hard is it, to go and steal some good mufflers of some others peoples cars, j/p

RB says everyone, straight pipes says me
