My venerable (186k) 87 has picked up a miss until it's fairly warmed up then it goes away. Even then I'm not sure how smooth I'd say the car is really running just not as hard a miss.

Anyone else expereince this issue? Cleaned the plugs, I think the trailing coil may be a bit on the weak side, I may swap it out with another one I have.

The car did overheat at one point so I'm pondering engine damage. Weak springs perhaps?

Thoughts? Suggestions? Input?

Going to do the ATF bit here pretty soon.

nix the ATF idea...I think it's been pretty well debunked. Try Marvel Mystery Oil instead, all of the benefits with none of the side effects. I actually use MMO as my premix oil.

Really? I'm behind the times.

How much MMO are you mixing in? Disabled the oil inejction or left it?

drunkin_idiot 03-05-2005 02:21 PM

Then ur not premixing right, mmo doesnt work that way. You need actual 2 stroke oil, rated at tcw-3

Rotarydragon 03-05-2005 02:42 PM

Allright, MMO or not? Or should I use SeaFoam DeepCreep like others?

*boggles*

you really dont need anything unless youve been lugging it around under 3000rpms all the time

the missing cold thing is kinda normal, the mixture is rich and the timing is a little advanced. assuming you've already looked at the normal stuff (tps, etc etc) the water themosensor is worth looking at

Shane.Trammell 03-05-2005 11:06 PM

it could be the plugs youre using, you could be running the highway ones that are meant to work at high temps. if it stops when it warms up i wouldnt worry about it bc you shouldnt drive your car til its warm anyway

huh, start it and drive slowly until its warm, you're doing more harm than good if you're sitting there idling for 15minutes

It's just been sitting forever and a day and I figured clearing out the carbon could help the issue a bit is all.

Otherwise it runs, I have heat (disconnected the air mix motor and switched the flap) and seems to be fine. Well other then it seems to have picked up the 3800 rpm hesitation after sitting. And it needs brakes. And probably tires. And the rear end makes this lovely roaring sound (hope it's just tires)

And the belts are noisy.

And...

Hey I think I've concluded I own an 87 RX-7. . .
