I have my 89 GTU down for an oil cooler replacement (underway), clutch hydraulic repairs (done), and some A/C work (still to be done). I was wondering if it has been done or is possible to add a separate oil reservoir for the lube oil the MOP sends into the rotor housings to lube them? I assume the only supply of oil available in an OEM engine is the oil pan. Even when the oil is changed every 3K miles there is going to be some foreign matter in this oil. I have had to change out the oil lines going from the mop to the rotor housings when I broke one of the original lines while working on the front of the engine and started me thinkingabout providing the pump with its own source of clean oil to lube the internals of the rotary chambers. Anyone done this or heard of a setup such as this?

It used to be that a device was available for doing just that for use in airplanes with rotary power, that was fitted between the original OMP and the front cover. A bottle on the firewall supplied the device with 2 cycle oil.

It can also be done by plugging the oil passage at the front iron. Then drill open the passage at the left front of the cover, and TIG weld a Dash 4 AN male to the cover to supply the oil to the stock OMP. If you want to go back, just cap the AN 4 and take out the plug in the cover.

lynn- I have such a set up in my car, the guy who makes the adaptor no longer makes the "adaptor for the adaptor", so its not so easy

a bolt on thing.

Supposidly he made 4 "adaptors for the adaptor", I know of one being used today by Roan.

Trust me I talked to the person who made them about 6 times on the phone at great lengths to figure it all out, he said there was not enough interest in the piece to keep it in production.

His set up is basically just for planes, or even drag cars. His set up delivers a pre-determined amount, so if your pretty much running high RPM all the time like a airplane your good, but if you want it off throttle you will need some further fabrication.
