OK, keep in mind this is my 3rd short shifter from them that I have installed.
Went to throw this one in and even though the shifter would drop in, it would not shift or center. So I clean out the linkage really good, still no help. I end up grinding a small amount (i hit the stock and the ss with calipers and found the ss to be .10 larger). Ground it down and bam works great, I was pretty pissed as a 10 minute ordeal turned out to be a 2 hour ordeal as I had to shave just a bit at a time, then test, etc, etc... Anyone ever have a similar issue? Anyone ever wonder if that being just a little out of spec or a little worn on the linkage side could cause the rattling? To small would seem to rattle between the linkage and the shift lever ball... now I need to conduct an experiment. |

yer sista's ass or something

does it rattle or not
p.s- yo momma |
No its too tight to rattle at least at the linkage point.

Did you read the Mazdatrix write-up on rattling in short shifters?
|
in summery, doesnt it say that some will rattle and some wont and that they have no explanation for why?
or is my memory failing me? |
Yes and yes, I am offering some potential insight as to the tollerence of the prduct and a possible reason that it may rattle.
Mine however doesnt rattle. Basically I am bitching because I had to grind on my new short shifter. |
so you ground your knob
|
Dude I recommend the C's short shifter to you all, its awsome.

Anyways, mine only rattles at certain high rpms, but I can make it stop by applying pressure to the shifter. Sucks that you had to grind yours to make it fit. Mine shifted really notchy at first*, but seemed to break in after a week or so. *I typically shift into first while still rolling backwards, and I couldn't get it in first unless the car was absolutely still. |
