hey, I'm just curious if anyone has bought a mazda remanufactured for their cars?, i'm looking into buying one, but I was just curious about a few things

j9fd3s 01-08-2004 02:22 PM

like what?

1Revvin7 01-08-2004 02:38 PM

The mazda reman I had was built with all new parts, even all the bolts were new. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Rob x-7 01-08-2004 03:38 PM

I remember jim telling me about a guy with a FD that

had something like 400hp on a mazda reman. motor

and had no problems.

If you get a dealer discount I bet they are a good deal.

engines are one of those things that sometimes get deeper discounts.

1988RedT2 01-08-2004 03:48 PM

Hmmm. How much fer one o' them thar Mazda remanufactured wankels? Can you still get 'em for the T2?

BrandonDrecksage 01-08-2004 04:34 PM

mallory mazda told me 2200 to the shop i want, and to send my engine back to them. I was just curious how easy it is to put one in, like starting it up for the first time and such. I've heard that rebuilds are usually hard to start up the first time.

Ones with used parts are hard to start. Not engines with all new seals/housings..

BrandonDrecksage 01-08-2004 05:02 PM

Does anyone know if the remanu engines come with new housings?

they sometimes do, not all the time like they should

BrandonDrecksage 01-08-2004 05:33 PM

so is going for one of these my best bet for replacing the engine?

No local rotary shops?

i think you may be able to get a warranty with a reman, not sure

if the dealer has to install it though.

BrandonDrecksage 01-08-2004 07:43 PM

there is local rotary shops, but the all charge atleast 3,500 for a rebuild, and that is if i take it out

Rob x-7 01-08-2004 08:08 PM

we have all heard horror stories about rotory shops, but I wonder

who is doing the work for Mazda?

when you bring them your core they send it back out someplace,

I wonder where

BrandonDrecksage 01-08-2004 08:13 PM

true, but i'm under the impression that they have a 2 year warrenty as long as the block isn't opened

Mazderati 01-08-2004 08:16 PM

Mazda's criteria for a rotor housing within spec is pretty tight. If nothing else is new besides seals and bearings I would say that you stand a pretty good chance of getting new rotor housings. From what I have seen and read the irons are the most commonly re-used parts.

I would consider how much damage is done to your engine whether it be from something blowing up or just from wear-and-tear. Getting a Mazda reman with new parts is a whole lot cheaper than trying to piece a new motor together.

I think they have something like a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty.

oh im sure they are good, I was just wondering who is doing the

work for Mazda thats all.

I guess they have thier own people do it all and ship it everywhere, like

all the transmissions, engines, etc..

the dealer themselves do not do the rebuilding, but I guess mazda does it

themselves someplace

My dad bought a Mazda reman for his FD. It cost right around $2000, but he had a hook up. He was friends w/ a mechanic there that got the engine for him.

He beats the crap out of that FD and he has not had a single issue with it at all. Its been over a year now that he has had it and he is daily driving it 70 miles a day to and from work.

He races anyone that has something that looks like its a decent race. He now tells Mustang GT owners at lights he will not waste his gas racing them. LOL it pisses them off.

banzaitoyota 01-08-2004 09:39 PM

If I remember correctly: the Mazda remans are actually performed for Mazda under contract by AC Delco in Jacksonville Fla. Maazda used to maintain 2 shops (one east coast and one west coast) but they were having Quality control problems with the west coast, so they consolodated operations and contracted it out.

thats correct. they had problems and then they opened the new jaxonville facility (they do trannies too, lots and lot and lots and lots of them, they say ford on em...) and after about 2 years they contracted to ac delco who cam in and put all the counter wieghts in one bucket, so they had motors vibrating to peices. they seem to have, unlike the previous, learned how to build a decent motor.

we used to get motors with all kinds of wierd things, apex seal grooves missing, 0 compression, housings that were worse than your old ones, but they have gotten better lately

BrandonDrecksage 01-09-2004 05:58 PM

cool, thanks guys, now i just need to save the 2,200 so i can start putting miles on my car https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

FikseRxSeven 01-09-2004 06:07 PM

my engine was put in by the mazda dealer in union, the total cost was about 3500, they took it out and put a new one in, as for the warranty, it comes with a 1 year warranty, and you have to pay extra for a 2 year one.

SilverTurbo 01-09-2004 07:14 PM

FYI: You can get them for $1700 at revolutionrotary

As I recall they are very strong engines. Had one in my Vert and it came with two new rotor housings.

Put the engine in, fired up on the first try, ran like a champ.

FikseRxSeven 01-09-2004 07:20 PM

i just did a research again.... it cost me 3500, but included was a 200 coupler for the y pipe (less than 10 bucks anywhere else)

neevosh 01-09-2004 07:25 PM

I bought one about a year ago from Malloy Mazda. I don't know if it still happens, but when I bought mine, Malloy had worked it out to only get engines with new rotor housings. I was happy with mine. No leaks and I put down 300 RWHP at 12psi in my FD. I'd buy a reman over a jspec engine any day.

a-******* men to that

jspec= junkyard engine from Japan, why people think they are gold is BEYOND

me. Everyone one of them the same line of bullshit: "40,000-50,000 mileage

engines".. yeah ok, and I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you too, lol

i think malloy buys enough so that they can do that, we asked mazda and they wouldnt

BrandonDrecksage 01-09-2004 11:21 PM

I have a n/a, so I can't use a jspec anyway, hopefully i can save cash fast, my engine is running worse and worse everytime I turn the key :(
