my car smokes more than I do (which is a lot) The previous owner said it started doing it after he removed the cat and replaced it with a corksport pre-silencer. Catch is he never knew about the secondaries feeding off the exhaust so I figured it was because the engine was starving on the top end. I was wrong, I tied the auxillary ports open and it still smokes (a lot). any ideas?

-1986 5spd

-racing beat headers, cork sport presilencer, and a single, 3", apexi cat back

-only smokes above 4k rpm's (hence my auxillary idea)

-throttle position (above 4k rpm's) doesnt seem to matter

-oil reads about 60psi above 4k rpms, but I dont trust the gauge... think it might be a bad connection giving the low reading.

-and it is a metric-ass-ton of grey smoke

I was wondering if the auxillary injectors (on the upper manifold) need an electrical signal that tells them to open at a certain RPM (maybe they need an electrical signal that comes in about the same time the auxillary ports are opened by the exhaust?) that they werent getting and the engine is still starving?

I dunno...

maybe your omp is not working right

How much oil does the engine use in 1000 miles?

If the secondaries aren't coming on, you'd notice a definite problem on the top end. Does the engine pull hard up to redline?

How many miles on the engine?

with the auxillaries tied open it really starts pullin at about 4k rpms and pulls hard above 6k rpms

with the auxillaries shut the power band drops below 4k rpms but still runs ok above that, theres just no real "pull" to it.

miles on the engine = 132,000

oil consumption ='s about one quart for every thousand or so miles. usually about 3 tanks='s 1qt of castrol 20w-50.

triad:

thought about the omp. the only thought that made sense to me would be something like, improper atomization of oil... if that makes sense. like a drizzle instead of a spray... because if I run her hot for a second or two (hot ='s balls to the wall) it'll smoke after I bring her back down for a little bit and then it'll clear out.

I'm not too familiar with the oil injection but it would seem like its acting like a fuel injector with too little fuel pressure... catch my drift? so I was thinking its either dirty or plugged or it could be the oil pump... which would explain the low oil pressure.

not too scared though... the way I see it: as long as the ol hag keeps smokin I'll know she's atleast lubed up. when she stops I'll get worried.

seems to smoke less when warmed up...

instead of a james bond smoe screen it becomes a puff of smoke when I shift.

someone was saying something about side seals, and oil leaking in... expands when warm... seals up?

didnt quite catch it

sounds like oil control seals but honestly 1000 miles per quart is still pretty decent. I had the same problem but I was getting about a tank of gas per quart of oil ~ 250mi.
