I want to get the MAP ECU at http://corksport.com/store/category/...rx-Engine.html this summer. However, i am curious whether it would be worth it. Would this help that much and does anyone have any experience with it. Also, i plan on getting a supercharger eventually. Will this take care of my computer problems completely if i have this or will i still have to get a piggyback/stand alone?

MVP motorsports sells that for about 150 less.

thats a complete waste of money.. you want to ditch the stock ECU,and go with a standalone system, the stock ecu is very limited. you wouldnt have any timing control with that either whith would become an issue... if you were to use that setup to its potentional

you can get a mega squirt system working for 600 dollars.

what mods do you have?? bigter turbo or anything?? what yr turbo II

for that kind of price you should really go with a full standalone. I'm new to seven's but I'm familier with dyno/performance tuning on H-D's and crotch rockets (I've done several including my own r6), a piggyback is ok, but it is only correcting what the ecu can't do itself. A standalone completely replaces the ecu with one that has the ability to compensate for much greater modifications. Plus, if you want to do much, datalogging is a great tuning resource. Choose something that will let you do it.

Truthfully, I'm leaning toward an rtek 2.0 because of the minimum investment/ maximum features approach. The ability to datalog and use aux inputs is something i'd never expect to see out of a $400 upgrade. As far as it being a piggyback/standalone, I'm not sure what to say as it is a reprogrammed stock ecu w/ an upgrade memory/aux input board for tuning.

Its a 90 N/a With Apexi air intake, throttle body mod, rb True Duals, removed p/s, removed A/c best (for now) and some suspension stuff. This summer might be more towars other stuff for handling and aerodynamics if anything. I plan on running it a couple more years before i rebuild, street port, and supercharge since no one does that really. Who knows, either way, even if i end up getting a turbo motor instead, i would still like a comp in advance that can deal with it. So thanks for the advice on getting a standalone. I will just go with that, so if you have any mroe suggestions and price on standalones, that would be great.

*i realize how much people have against supercharging rx-7's or sayings its a waste of money/time. Don't let that be the issue. I am just considering it but either way i want to eventually add boost so i just would like the car to be ready when i do go all out on that part.

yeah ive also been looking at the rtek 2.0 and it does look promising... however i think the AFM becomes a larger restriction at higher hp acplications.... so im not sure if id get it or not...

rtek 2.0 or megasquirt is a cheap system...

NoeVuh 01-30-2006 11:42 PM

I was just going to ask about the AFM becuase i would like to get rid of that as soon as possible. Im not sure what your options are in replacing it with something less restrictive.

coxxoc 01-30-2006 11:46 PM

i hear you about the afm. the "flapper door" and MAF are both restrictive for extremely high hp setups, they should be fine for 250-300 hp applications. But, if current trends continue, I bet the guys doing rtek will make a MAP version if enough people want it. They've definately stepped it up since version 1.0.

Do a google search for the megasquirt forums. Search there for any rotary people and get their feedback. AFAIK; it will do what every other stand-alone (AEM/MOTEC) will do - it just costs a whole bunch less b/c you put it together yourself.

And if I remember correctly, there may be a nice writeup on Corner-Carvers about someone MSing their Audi.

Do your homework before plunking down $$$.

It's only if you don't have patience...and that's like me stating that I hate Ferraris, they've never owned a Supercharger so why listen to them, they are going by other peoples statements - I'm one of the few Camden Supercharger Owners and love it to death and wouldn't put a turbo on my engine vs this any day...
