I think I'm gonna go for it. Majestic turbo rebuild on my stock Hitachi HT-18, plus the 46 trim wheel on the compressor upgrade, and a 10 degree clip on the exhaust side. All for 650 beans. Anybody got any words of encouragement? Ridicule? Lets hear it! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Cheers! 08-19-2003 08:48 PM

there is one majestic shop you shouldn't send to. I can't remember... BUt different majestic shops do different work.

Be careful with them. A friend of mine had his 87 TII turbo done by them and it lost its oil seals after nine months of driving. Ask them if they have fixed this problem or if they have gotten seals that can withstand the heat of the rotary. They told him it was the heat that caused the seals to go bad.

I didn't know there was more than one shop. This place is in Texas. I thought I heard they were the best.

Why not just upgrade to a T04? I see them on eBay for $425 all the time. A T04 manifold would run you another $200 or so.

1988RedT2 08-20-2003 07:24 AM

I don't know if I would trust a turbo from ebay without having it rebuilt and balanced. If that thing comes apart, I've got to buy me a new engine.

Nemesis 08-20-2003 12:57 PM

They are brand new.

1988RedT2 08-20-2003 01:13 PM

Hmm. I'm intrigued. How hard is the connection to my existing downpipe in the stock location? Is the turbo and manifold a simple bolt-on, or do I have to fabricate stuff? I've seen none of these turbos, but then I haven't been looking that hard. Just figured I couldn't touch a new turbo for less than 2500 or so.

1988RedT2 08-20-2003 01:24 PM

Okay, so there's T04's on ebay. Is a .60 on the compressor and a .96 on the exhaust appropriate for a rotary? Is the oil and coolant feed and return the same as the stock turbo?

:sigh:

I always see this reply. ''why not go full to4''

If you're going to4, you'll have to buy the

1. turbo

2. manifold

3. oil and coolant lines need to be made

4. the downpipe is going to need to be custom

5. stand alone and lots o' fuel

6. front mount

7. You will probably want an upgraded radiator

8. Wastegate

to4 conversion is not a cheap process

1988RedT2 08-21-2003 05:55 AM

Yah. That's just a wee bit more than I can take on at the moment. I'm definitely looking for a simple bolt-on upgrade.

Try BNR supercars they did my T-18 for $710 im sure some one on here has there ##

GarageBoy 08-21-2003 09:02 PM

Does cheapturbo.com do it?

1988RedT2 08-21-2003 09:07 PM

Cheapturbo.com DID reply quickly to my email, but they said that they cannot get the parts to rebuild the stock Hitachi turbo.

What exactly did they do for $710? What other mods do you have? Is a T-18 the stock turbo?

baller520 08-21-2003 10:16 PM

ht-18 is the stock turbo.

gagamazda 08-22-2003 01:03 AM

How about swapping an s5 turbo/manifold setup into your s4? I'm not sure what the gains would be but it would be cheap.

mazdadrifter 08-22-2003 10:52 PM

jims5543 had them upgrad a stock s5 turbo to a t04e, and was running 13.08 on 9lbs of boost with 720cc secondaries and a s-afc. Sounds like they did a good job to me.

also, with either upgrade your going to need more fuel. an upgrade is very capable of pushing as much air as a comperable full t04, but probably wouldn't spool as fast. there's a jillion variables

im installing the hybrid now, so i'll be able to tell you what i think of it. If it doesn't work out, I'd say I could get into a t04 w/ manifold, wastegate, oil lines, and an adapter to feed the exhasut to my current downpipe for less than 1G. Depends on how thorough you are.

UniqueTII 08-23-2003 11:50 AM

I'm one of those people who had a Majestic rebuild/upgrade that went bad after 9 months too...it sucks, and I wouldn't recommend them to anybody.
