Hey guys, I've seen some LSD's advertized on ebay and parts trader lately and I'd like to know what all needs to be swapped to replace an S4 open diff like I have. Do I need the entire rear assembly or will any LSD just go right in? I even saw a 99 Type RB torsen one that they advertised would fit into any FC if I remember right.. so I am confused. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

It would be a lot less spendy to just buy the complete rear end.

Digging into a differential is not something to do without experience. It's not exactly hard, but you need special tools and techniques. If you screw things up (like the backlash or pinion preload) by 1% your diff will explode 1000 miles later.
Once you buy a LSD, and an install kit, and the labor to get it installed, you are looking at probably $400 more than that super cheapo LSD price on e-bay.
Grab a fully loaded diff, or drop the coin to get it installed. Unless you've setup diff gears before, in which case, dig in and have fun!
