well the other day my brakes started to feel weak so i checked to see if my brake pads were bad and ended up they were still good, so i tryed to bleed the brake system, after bleeding the system the brakes got it firmness back but after a while it started to feel weak again, so i turned the car off and pumped the brakes and it got firm again and when i turned the on car the brakes lost it firmness again, im thinking its my master cylinder, well just wanted some advice before i go out and buy something i dont need , thanks

More than likely it is your master cylinder, especially if you car was made from86 to 88. It also could be a crappy brake line going to one of your calipers. You may want to look into getting both replaced.

It could also be the booster.

well i went to check again and i found i wet stain on the brake booster where it connects to the master cylinder, the stain looks like it was from a slow leak or it could have been there for a while

sometimes when i first start my brakes will feel a little weak. i just put it in neutral and pump them a little and it gets all better. this has only happened twice since ive had the car.

Watch that fluid, brake fluid will eat right thru paint.

BENCH BLEED THE MASTER CYLINDER BEFORE PUTTING IT ON THE CAR.

Otherwise you'll have on hell of a time bleeding the brakes.
